early Malfunkshun was Alternative/Hard Rock with Heavy Riffs, Noisy like a band from No Wave scene and of course huge influence from Glam Rock. they're very essential at something you called Grunge. now, Malfunkshun just sounds like mediocre Hard Rock/Heavy Rock/Southern Rock without Glam Rock influence IMO :)
I'm not an expert on glam rock, but I don't think that they were glam rock. Andy was into glam and he was and excellent show-maker, but the guitar riffs are heavy and, in lack of other words, grungy. Imo, MLB wasn't grunge, but Malfunkshun was.
While still killer, this ain't grunge. This is glam rock, with elements of arena rock. They get lumped into the grunge category because they were from Seattle, and Andrew joined with three former members of Green River (the first grunge band) to form MLB.
Ya know, Alice in Chains is the love of my life.. but, I wonder.. where the hell would go all the grunge bands like Aic, Mudvayne, Soundgarden.. without Wood. It creeps me out to think how it would have end without him showing the others WHAT IS THIS GRUNGE ALL ABOUT. "Sigh".. We die young..
http://www.myspace.com/allhailthecrown < Kevin wood's band "all hail the crown", that's why it says 2006-present it's what malfunkshun has evolved into (kevin started up the band again, kind of, he's the only remaining member who was in the original line-up atm, the band just went through alott of name changes since 2006 and line-up changes, i'm 99% sure all the songs by all hail the crown were written by Andrew)..there's more about that on the wikipedia for malfunkshun and the myspace profile I just linked to.. :)
