this song was on the soundtrack for the movie vision quest. Starring Mathew modine. great coming of age movie about a young man who wrestles in high school. i loved it as a youngster. i recently showed it to my oldest son and he liked it too!. also starring Linda fiorintino!!! she was young and quite fetching!!!
Heartbreaking story about the dying boy being the first to hear the completed version of this song. The band went to the hospital to visit him as his last wish and they let him hear this on a walkman.I was pretty moved hearing the story and that makes this one special song because it is for all the young.
If rebellion, intellect, anger, originiality, passion and finally soul are true Rock and Roll....hee!...than these gus are the exact opposite! They are simply arena pop and only good for soundtracks. Journey is the OPPOSITE of ROCK.
The only good song they ever did. It has soul...none of their other music did. The best part of Vision Quest, and I haven't seen it in forever, is when the "older" guy is talking about a young athlete reaching his peak and how he regretted being jealous of him. I think it might have been Pele.
This particular "About the Track" is incredible . . . just ludicrous how they got to fly out, hang out and perform for Kenny, then he died the NEXT day with the walkman still in his hand, for fux sake cot DAMN. I haven't heard much from Journey yet but this is one of the most "gets better with every listen" type of joints I've been lucky enough to discover. Makes me nostalgic of my college years every fucking time. >_> lol
Put this song on your stereo, and it's possible to do anything. Yes, quite literally anything. Get in shape, pass the bar exam, punch Ivan Drago until he falls down. It's all possible when listening to "Only the Young."
only the young.....are the best :-) I remember this song was a sound track - forget the movie title - a young wrestler who was teached in lessons of love of a beauty....great sound track - nice movie (Madonna stage scene was part of it as well)
