C'mon man, by definition EVERY band in the Solid State record label are wannabes of their top bands: Living Sacrifice & Zao. The other only band that it's interesting is Norma Jean, and still the'y haven't done anything that Converge had done better.
How the hell do August Burns Red, Underoath, To Speak of Wolves, and Emery have anything to do with ZAO and Living Sacrifice? I guess I could be more lenient with ZAO since they became more melodic but even then ZAO still stuck closer to a more exclusive Metal+Hardcore mixture. As for Living Sacrifice I know that Underoath and Haste the Day both noted them as an influence but it barely shows as theyre more straight up Groove Metal + Hardcore than the sort of melodic sounding Metalcore that they play. With Norma Jean and Converge how does that even really work? Again wont deny the influence but relisten to Jane Doe and Redeemer, the vocals, production, and songwriting are vastly different, the only thing similar is how noisy they are. You make no sense at all.
So many people fooled into thinking this band was 'back' when in reality, they knew that with Jimmy, the reaction would be insane so they chucked some songs together and announced dates that they knew would sell out. Clever marketing from a band that don't give a fuck but just wanted to cash in on some oldschool fans.
Amazing stuff. Was a bit worried after Attack of the Wolf King, which is by far the worst album. But it sounds a bit like the old HdT and it is not an overproduced piece of shit like some of the "newer" bands do it and on stage they come not even close... Well done!
Was totally hyped, when I saw that the guys had a new album coming out.
But honestly? This is their worst one so far. Not a single track that I'd listen to again. Wish they would go back to the WEF/PTH days...
After listening through Coward 3 or so times (loved it from first playthrough) I still have no idea how they fucked up the production so badly. Every single other album has better production/mixing than this one... It makes the album much less enjoyable than it should be, because I fucking love the instrumentals and the catchy choruses they have in Coward..
