Just got into this band, I don't know what took me so long. I like the first 2 albums the best, just a big fan of Stang's vocals. I prefer Turis Fratyr of the two by a little, more guitar-driven folk metal without as much keyboard, kind of like in the style of Ensiferum's first two albums.
I'm so glad I didn't preorder Armageddon. The band's chosen direction is too over-synthesized, plastic and monotonous. It would be naive to expect old Equilibrium, yet when Erdentempel at least gave good listening variety: familiar folk songs, waltzy and slow-paced tracks with a traditional instrumental at the end, not to mention that the english lyrics was kept to minimum; Armageddon succeeds only with catchy funky melodies - and only within two songs. I agree with my friend's opinion that they should abandon folk elements and just play solid modern metal, which is noticed in Eternal Destination.
New album after first listen: quite good, but disappointing compared to last one. Guitars are really catchy sometimes, but folk elements sounds stiffly. I like a lot "Erwachen" anyway, it remids me of Erdentempel, their best in my opinion. They made their opus magnum and this level is probably unreachable now.
2eternal_absence, hah, funny thing was that shortly after my message I found out about the Armageddon. Now, judging solely by the new art-cover (tired from these pseudo-skelets), shared song (enough of English language, Equilibrium!) and its sound (meh :( )I won't pre-order the album as I did with the Erdentemple. I will definitely listen to it,.. but, honestly, I doubt it's going to be any good.
Please, do not take another 4 years break before the full-lengths. I'd like to hear another album around 2017! ;) (2) http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Equilibrium/Armageddon/587997 Check it out, they're next album is due in August
When I heard this band for the first time it impressed me so much that I thought they are destined to become way more popular than Ensiferum. But it didn't work out somehow.
At least Equilibrium has its 10 000 000 plays already.
Karnevals-Folk?
