Ott 15 2011, 0:00 di jukkakhanWhenever I get that dreadful feeling that my life is going nowhere, the first thing I turn to is Octavarium. Although it it does nothing to remedy the situation at hand, it gives me that tiny bit of reassurance that I'm not the only one who has felt trapped, and that as long as I continue to press on, I will find my way out. More importantly, it gives me some much needed time to distance myself from my thoughts and give them time to settle. Over the course of its 20+ minutes, the song progresses though five sections, each of them with their own distinct sound and feel, almost as if they were plucked from entirely different songs. But when taken as a whole, they bonds between them begin to strengthen and come together as the different parts of a long journey. As you progress through the different terrains, there are different messages to learn from the words around you. All of them valuable in their own right, but ultimately they share a common theme that builds the message of the entire album: the Full Circle. …

Ott 23 2009, 18:37 di nunolobaoQuinta 22 Out – Progressive Nation 2009
Ott 10 2009, 20:26 di WulfbeatFINThis is my dream Dream Theater setlist. The list contains total of 15 songs. 12 songs plus two encores (2+1)
In The Presence Of Enemies, Pt. 1
Strange Déjà Vu
Learning to Live (or almost any song of I&W)
**Rudess sick keyboard solo**
A Nightmare to Remember
Take Away My Pain
The Glass Prison
In The Presence Of Enemies, Pt. 2
Stream Of Consciousness (instrumental)
Pull Me Under
A Change of Seasons
The first 12 songs are in sandwich which starts with part 1 and ends with part 2 of the epic song "In the Presence of Enemies". I think the part 1 is perfect song to start with (nothing wrong with ANTR though!! just saw them live starting with that monster song and it did very well)
Then the party continues when they come back at stage and play orgasmic instrumental (Stream of Consciousness) and then straight away with their hit from the album "Images and Words": Pull Me Under.
Set 26 2009, 8:40 di Twilight_AmandaFri 25 Sep – Progressive Nation 2009
Opeth. And Dream Theater. In the same show. Awesome!
That's what I thought when we drove down to Stockholm for this great event. But it didn't get just that awesome. But I'm skipping ahead.
Unexpect and Bigelf.
We came in right in the middle of Unexpect's set, but from what I heard, I can't say we missed out on that much. The music was a bit too over the top for me, personally. It had a very nightmarish mood, that was kinda cool. But it just wasn't my thing. And unfortunately, that's all I can say about them.
The Imperial March from Star Wars starts to roar out over the audience. Bigelf. Without a doubt the coolest band to enter the stage that night. They all looked like Cousin Itt! (I say that in all well meaning. I have a soft spot for long-haired men.) Their music was a bit Deep Purple-sounding at times, quite classic and cool. During one song, Blackball I think, Mike Portnoy hijacked the drums. Love that man, very inspiring. ^^

Merriweather Post Pavilion: Progressive Nation
Zappa Plays Zappa
Scale the Summit
Sadly, both Pain of Salvation and Beardfish were forced to pull out of the tour when they lost funding. I'm a long time, big fan of POS and it was a massive downer to spend 58 bucks a pop for tickets and not get to see the one band I bought them for. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised by the Zappa cover band. They were nothing short of phenomenal. I knew none of the songs and am not very familiar with Frank Zappa's music, but the variety and incredible virtuosity of all the performers, combined with near flawless execution and a smooth, classy stage presence made the show worth it.
This was my 3rd time seeing DT, so I was considerably less excited. They played a pretty decent show. Didn't seem a whole lot different from the PN 07 or 08, except for the new songs. The setlist was something like this (not 100% sure, it was over a month ago):
