Hi. I wrote an essay on Dr. Octagonecologyst recently, explaining why it is one of my all time favourite records, and easily the greatest hip hop record I've ever heard. It'd mean a lot if you read it! http://thesweetestparsnips.wordpress.com/2014/01/14/dr-octagon-dr-octagonecologyst/
Nice piece. It's a seminal work and defined hip hop at the time, yet still remains timeless. Arguably one of the greatest hip hop album ever, I'd put in my top three! It showcases how Kool Keith transcends the genre and breaking all contexts, as always separating the wheat from the chaff. My only grumble is that critics place it so highly in his oeuvre, that it overshadows his other key works as he never really made anything that sounds like it again, perhaps the Q-Bert scratches and the Automator production is what wins people over. Keith's rhymes are (as always!) on point, insane flows, mad imagery and vocab, but this can be found everywhere on all his records despite the issue of consistency and sometimes questionable production. The man NEVER stops he is the savior of hip hop , long may he continue to be so. Respect!
