YAAAAY "For their seventh studio album, due to be released in 2017, CORONER have signed a worldwide record deal with Sony Music Switzerland, which has enlisted the help of Century Media Records, whom will release the new CORONER record internationally. For fans whom simply cannot wait for their next fix, CORONER have a special treat in storewith Autopsy."
Agoraphobic News: Every Coroner album was different from its predecessor. What can we expect from a brand new album? Maybe a natural continuation of Grin?
Ron Royce: Well, honestly, I am curious myself, what the results will be, because we are quite a bit older now. And the situation is also different these days because of our new drummer (Diego Rapacchietti) which also opens up a whole new range of possibilities.
Except somebody who listens to Meshuggah and criticizes Coroner as soulless wankery obviously sees more than that in Meshuggahs sound but doesnt see more than that in Coroner. Its not hypocritical to me.
The terms "boring wankery" or "souless wankery" are used to bash on bands and artists that show off their technical skills on an instrument accusing them of doing it for the sake of pretentiousness (basically any prog-rock/jazz-related act). It is not used to distinctly say "yo, mah wankery is betta than ye wankery" like a cheese contest. In my opinion it is a weak argument used by people to justify their lack of understanding and appreciation for music created and performed with proficiency and its mostly used hypocritically.
I think its fair to like Meshuggah and dislike Coroner. Yeah sure theyre both Tech Metal but the similarities end there. Meshuggah are much more Groove Metal oriented and use lots of polyrhythms and more chuggy heavy guitar riffs with a bit of a surreal atmosphere sometimes added in. Coroner on the other hand are way more Thrashy with Prog Rock elements that increased in time, Mental Vortex being the most surreal feeling out of their albums before completely going against the Thrashy sound in Grin. Its not hypocritical to like one band and criticize the other as "boring wankery" because both bands are a different form of "wankery" obviously if someone likes Meshuggah and not Coroner then that means that they feel the Meshuggah style has more to it leading them to label Coroner as "boring wankery".
"You like this one band so you can't criticize this completely unrelated band. Makes sense." Nice straw man right there boyo.
What I'm saying is how someone who likes an artist whose music is commonly refered to as "boring wankery" is going out there calling "boring wankery" on other artists' works.
It's like going out there wearing a ku kux klan costume calling other people racists: You're either joking or you're plain stupid.
"This guy must be joking. How could anyone who actually listens to meshuggah use the phrase "stupid boring wankery" and pretend to be taken seriously?" You like this one band so you can't criticize this completely unrelated band. Makes sense.
People thinking Grin is a bad album, or worse, their releases since No More Color are a step down compared to the debuts truely didn't understand anything about this band. Hopefully, Last.FM is the only place where i've read this kind of bullshit, wake up guys, anyway if you're planning to see Coroner on stage, you'll see that Grin is the most represented because they think it's their best. People didn't understand this album when it has been released, 22 years after, some still don't, amazing achievement, Coroner's indeed a band from another dimension !
Best Thrash Metal band of all time. Tommy T. Baron is still one of the most underrated guitar players of all time, but he's one of my favorites! This band never got and still doesn't get the attention it deserves!!
