Wow, a lot of dislike for this album. Never realized there were so many Bruce fans not liking it.
Can understand the critisism about the production, but the songs themselves and the music overall... makes it for me one of his finest. Very diverse as well, never felt bored for a second while listening to it.
The commercial peak of Springsteen. Is it the best by him? Nope. Is it an all time classic? Yes, sir. And what does that say about the rest of the man's work? He's America's voice in his time, and who could ask for more?
I agree with ralfsu. I couldnt listen to this album for a long time because of the big production. When I did finally listen to it a few times I realized every song was great - I eventually got over the production and enjoyed the songs - except the title track oddly. I prefer the stripped down acoustic version of that song on Tracks. Serves it much better I think.
I think it's interesting that so many people consider this to be his best album. Darkness on the Edge of Town, for example, is in my opinion much better. A lot of it has to do with the production, like the mixing of his vocals -- and then we have the synth's of course. I would like to hear the demos of these songs to see if they are like the songs on Nebraska, one of my absolute favourite albums of his.
I'm sure like a lot of people, this is my favourite Springsteen album. Every song is absolute quality. The lyrics, music and of course, the vocals! Superb! Has my favourite Springsteen song on it too - I'm Goin' Down!
March 2010 i hate this song. sounds like hes taking a shit. HORRIBLE song. stupid lyrics ------------oh no why did you write that? if you don't like it, you could choose not to listen to Bruce Springsteen, please respect the others, you've no rights to hurt people. thx!!
