Hopscotch - Julio Cortázar
The most notable aspect of this novel is its unusual structure. This is apparent from the very outset. You are given an option: you can either read it linearly, which only encompasses two sections entitled 'From the Other Side' and 'From This Side', or you can read it in a non-linear fashion that includes a third section called 'From Other Sides'. The novel's protagonist is an Argentinean intellectual who roams around Paris and is obsessed by 'La Maga'. He eventually returns to Argentina and stays with an eccentric couple. This culminates in a psychatric institution where Oliveira works and he reaches the brink of insanity. This text simply can't be reduced to plot, because its main appeal is its use of language. Cortázar inventively plays around it in a style akin to an improvising jazz performer. …
Mag 25 2009, 21:02 di MampatoI can't think of a new journal to write, so I'll just write any old wank that comes to my head. Here goes...
I saw a Bresson film recently. It was really good.
I prefer Godard, though.
I finished writing a short story called 'The Desolate Valley'; it's a masterpiece.
Die, die, die. Dying.
This journal is a load of pretentious wank.
Each night we die a death. When we dream we recapitulate our past into a new, unprecedented form. To die a death... to die, to die.
I am getting lonely; I haven't seen a friend seen September. I crave vanity and appreciation. And all the people from my college are boring fucking cunts
I was thinking of sending my essay on Naked Lunch to David Cronenberg. I got an A for it, so he may like it.
I really, really hope I get my novels and short stories published when I'm older.
My psychotic episode was a hell of a rollercoaster ride; I may appoximate the experience if I take LSD when I'm older.... it may help my writing... maybe

Nov 14 2006, 9:15 di moonlitkittyIf you're a reader of my blog, please join Spiked Candy. Not sure of its purpose precisely other than that I do enjoy finding out who reads my blog via here and myspace and a group seems like a convenient way to see who you are. Also, you never know what you may need an army of yé-yé fans for in the future.
Connections are a selection of artists I've posted so far plus the list of some of my fave artists I have links to in the sidebar:
France Gall (I know, shocking!)
Los Tres Sudamericanos
Christine et Ses Copains

Found this on one of cds that come free with magazines. Timebox were from the UK and were only together from 66-69. Apparently they had a 16 yr old drummer. This song is a cover. I'll let you find the original.
I love this band. I love all these bands! The Special Needs (who go by just the Needs now) were signed to Alan Mcgee's Poptones Records. I picked up this song on a Poptones sampler called "The Cassette Played Poptones". I bought it at the good ole Virgin in Vancouver. Almost ever track is good. Worth the digging.
One of the best new bands in the last 2 years. On Memphis Industries Records out of the UK. …
Ago 2 2006, 11:51 di raw_uOkay, it's time for a musical bilan of my stay in Paris, eight months this time.
Since all my years between France and Finland I've wanted to discover more french music. It is not always easy since my friends listen to exactly same pop music as the rest of the world does: Radiohead, Beck, Coldplay. I understand, they grew up with Claude François and the rest of the stuff, nothing left to discover there. The same way as mainstream iskelmä ("finnish shlagers") doesn't interest me back home. Besides, I mostly want to find to same kind of stuff I'd listen to anyway: a bit eclectic, a bit weird, a bit electro, a bit cute. Or all of this at the same time.
I already knew Serge Gainsbourg of course, he's the pope of controversy. Every self respecting home should have Melody Nelson in their disc collection. It is a masterpiece if I ever heard one. His collaborations with female singers are remarkable as well, naughty Sucettes with innocence of France Gall, Jane Birkin, Sylvie Vartan…
