subscription service changes will kill shell-fm as it exists currently, but we may be able to update it to continue working. If the API can still provide us with the user's playlists (and ideally now, the sources that the 'new' lastfm player would use to stream each track) then we may be able to keep shell-fm alive.

when I start shell-fm I get the message: "The Webservices API key supplied does not have permission to stream / create new radio trials". What can I do about that?

Radio via browser works indeed. my suspicion that radio would only work for subscribers then is obviously nonsense.

ps & btw: there is! a new version of shell-fm that implements the new api! as far as i understand git-talk, it's been merged into master just a couple of days ago. my previous comments apply to that new version.

...and what's the story with the api account, which is free? can i use that with shell-fm? (i am considering to subscribe to because i love it so much, but i'd really like to get this sorted first.)

could someone explain policy to me please? i've been using it for free for about 5 years and never experienced any limitations. i can still listen from my browser, no limits. from shell-fm i get the below mentioned error. vagalume still plays my default radio, but i can't change stations. ???

there is an issue with the invalid api-key. How can I fix that?

I would think so. At least that's what I gather from browsing through jonas' github issues. But I'm not familiar with apis, code and stuff, so I might be wrong.

I see, with the new api, last-fm radio is only available to subscribers from now on. Too bad.

Does that mean someone (Jonas?) ist working on an implementation of the new protocol? That would be great. Shell-fm is definitvely one of the most useful tools there are :).

I'm testing shell-fm with support for the new protocol at the moment, I'm sure that once the maintainer is sure the kinks have been ironed out he will push it into the git master branch.

I reveived the same message. I contacted the shell-fm maintainer to know if he always maintains it and if he will implement the new protocol but reveiced no answer for the moment :-( Nemo

If nothing is working, make sure that in the past, you didn't install privoxy. If you did, you may have a "http_proxy" variable in your env. (Use env | grep "http_proxy" to check.) If the check returns with something like "http_proxy=", you'll need to unset it to get the damn thing to work. (unset http_proxy) PROBLEM SOLVED!

Nice, finally fixed. Also, @gesinger Thanks for the tip, except that it's SHIFT+P. ;(

shell-fm does scrobble by default. There was a bug in a release some time ago that had scrobbling disabled by default, but you can still activate it manually, or - even better - compile from the latest sources from github!

  • gesinger

@digitalhorse you can, you simply need to type P (toggles enable/disable RTP - report to profile - scrobbling)

  • digitalhorse

This is bullshit. shell-fm should scrobble!

  • danielberger

@phoenixsol did you try manually enabling RTP (shortcut P). That fixed it with me.
