Are you losing your playlists, your tags and loved tracks?

Team up with our members here to make your Personal Tags into Global Tags.

Through cooperation, we can bring back the music.

On November 17th, all of the Personalized Radios on Last.fm were disabled. Including:

Loved Tracks Radio
Personal Tag Radio

and any and all user Playlists.

Some of us have put an awful lot of work into our personalized radios. We have spent hours tagging tracks and selecting the right combination of tracks for our theme playlists.

To save them, we have a few options.
- You can use the Last.fm Extension in the Chrome browser, which will play almost any song on Last.fm
- You can create a new account for a single radio, adding only songs that you want for a particular playlist
- You can convert a Personal Tag into a Global Tag, with multi-user tagging.
This group can facilitate the third method, and offer advice on the first two.

For a tag to become a Global Tag, it must be used by several users on an undetermined number of individual songs. (Probably at least 30).As a group, we can work together to turn Personal Tags into Global Tags.

We have come up with a process that works (see the list of successfully globalized tags further down). It involves tagging, and getting other users to replicate your tags. Here's what you need to do:

Use one of these tools to change/add many tags at once. I recommend the second choice, but all three of them work.

You will need Firefox for the second option - add the Greasemonkey addon if you don't have it yet, and install the script. After that it's very easy to tag a whole lot of tracks at once!

-Change your personal tags to something more specific, probably involving your username. (such as, "lizvelrene postpunk")
- OR Add tags to your Playlist, maybe using the title of the playlist if it's specific enough.
-OR Add tags to your Loved tracks, with your username (or whatever specific designation you want)
- Double check that the tag is not already in use.
You can do this by entering into the address bar: "http://www.last.fm/tag/YOURTAGHERE";

- Tell us about your tagging project in the Shoutbox below.
- Include a link to the playlist/tag/loved radio list, and let us know what the new tag should be.
- We will add your project to the Project List.
-Return the favor by tagging the other projects on the list.

I will list all tags needing rescue up here, and you can help out by tagging them.

Together, we can keep the music going!

Don't be shy - if you want to make your loved radio, tag radio, or playlist playable again, just drop a link in the shoutbox and let us know what to call the tag. If you are confused about what to do, send me a private message or ask in the shoutbox. We'll help you figure it out.

There is a lag between the tagging process and when your tag radio will be ready to play. It generally takes 1-2 weeks for a radio link to appear on the tag page, making the tag officially "verified". But some tag radios will be playable in the Last.fm software right away. Give it a day or two and then see if your new tag will play for you!

Tag Check! Unverified:

For the complete list of verified tags (over 300 so far!) see this thread -- http://www.last.fm/group/Tag+Rescue+Project/forum/211304/_/660296

There are several other suggestions for getting your radios going again -- read the Discussion board and some of the linked journals for some good ideas. One very good idea involves the use of alternate accounts. The directions for this are here: http://www.last.fm/group/Tag+Rescue+Project/forum/211304/_/655522

Important Reminder - please remember to tag all of the tracks yourself. When other people tag a long list they may not be able to get through the whole thing using their software. This will still globalize the tag itself, but it will leave some of your songs untagged. If a song doesn't get tagged at least once, it won't be part of the new radio. So please don't forget to do your own tagging, to make sure your chosen tracks will get globalized!

I keep going back to firefox 9.0 and seem to have minimal problems. I don't use greasemonkey, I use the masstagger. You might try sending headey a message, he seems to be a wealth of information. If he doesn't know, he may know where in the forum someone might. Good luck Silverlage!

I just downloaded firefox 6.0 because the newer few upgrades have made it so I can't tag playlists via firefox, Greasemonkey using the last.fm playlist and tag manager. Anyway it only seems to work with me using older versions of firefox and the userscript via Greasemonkey. I recently tried doing this on a new computer. For whatever reason when I click the 'Install' icon on the userscript website...nothing happens, I mean nothing. I tried installing other userscripts the same way just to make sure I wasn't crazy and I have no problems clicking the 'install' icon. Everything works great. 'Last.fm Playlist and Tag Manager' is the only userscript site I that the 'install' icon = no response....Help!

LeJazzy0213, thanks for your information. Yes, I tag my labes's songs in my normal tags. That was initially part of my plan for tagging.

TO EVERYONE: Go through your library once in awhile. Aside from creating another tag "I want more plays", another option is to go in and retag the lesser played tracks. I have found that it does seem to boost them, especially if I go play that tag shortly after doing so.

TO EVERYONE: According to an admin, if you don't use a tag within a year, or if a tagged track doesn't play in a year, it loses its tag. Just to make sure on my lesser played tags I don't lose the tag, I retag as a part of my NewYear resolution to not lose my tag.

Uninstall and reinstall... I am sure there is a little text or other file in masstagger that you might go through in the program files. Thanks. I did figure it out the hard way. I also realized I set it up for 'user Silverlage' about 8 times. Lol! Anyway to delete my user name down to 1?

Most of the time within a few moments of tagging a playable station, I can play it on the scrobbler. Then again, I have refused to upgrade to the new scobbler, so I don't know if it still applies to the new version.

Silverlage, it help if you have your browser window with the LFM account you want to set up with MassTagger open for verificaton. Do that with each name you set up with the Tagger.

arrright! I have some tagging to do. Sorry I have been awol. I love MassTagger. I have three accounts associated that I tag my stations with. I wouldn't put too many more than 200 tracks to a tag. It doesn't seem to play all of the tracks or many of the tracks when there are too many. Unless you run it for days.

If anyone is interested in doing some extra tagging. I have an entire label called Zilch Records. You can stream everything on our label using the tag. Tag any way you see fit, seriously. Tag it how you like to. Thanks for any help.

http://www.last.fm/user/fris4/library/tags?tag=rrk+station ~~~~~~~~ http://www.last.fm/user/theadey/library/tags?tag=rrk+station ~~~~~~~~~ OK -I've done these few, should be enough. But lastfm globalising has been very erratic for several months. You might need to wait a few weeks :( btw, it is tracks you need to tag for the globalisation process, but it should then pick up the tagged artists. Your other option is to create a new user account, say 'rrk_station' and add the artists. That radio would be available almost immediately.

I'm creating a tag station of artists who have recorded with the jazz titan Rahsaan Roland Kirk. I would really appreciate it if folks here would tag just a couple-few artists to make the tag go global. The tag is "rrk station" and you can see the list of artists at http://www.last.fm/group/Rahsaan+Roland+Kirk+Fan+Club/connections or http://www.last.fm/user/equinoxvox/library/tags?tag=rrk+station
