Glue! WTF. That's not how to repair the uUSB.

My short-lived n900 recently tragically died before I ever got round to scrobbling. Had stupidly already scratched the screen, but it was because I put far too much superglue into the loose usb charging port, while attempting to stabilise it (this is unfortunately a well known fault with the device!). Not quite sure what to do with it now :(

Hey -- just wanted to chime in that I love the functionality ... even though long patches of songs disappear when I'm at work, only to show later. Probably a function of the crappy T-Mobile signal in Pasadena. Thanks, love the N900 endlessly and love this very subtle piece of code magic.

If you feel that way, maybe you were never the target audience of the N900 anyway :]

Well I'm not sure if the developers are among us or checks here, but displaying a notification in our personal pages about which software we are using (n900 scrobbler in this case) would be nice. Like it happens when we use windows or another scrobbler.

  • sect-ion

ok sorry my N900 had wrong date, therefore it wouldn't scrobble at all. Although now it scrobbled all songs afterwards :)

scrobbling stopped working after 5th of July. Anyone else noticed problems?

I haven't checked it either, I just wrote it :-)

it seems to be working now, not sure what was wrong - perhaps because I listened to a load of things on a flight ( they make you switch the thing off for landing ).. and usually listen to things while not connected to the internet.. I think the trick is to use media player while connected, then it will update with everything from before.. at least that's my theory - not having checked the source code :)

  • csaavedra

So many questions, it's hard to know how to answer. Let's try: 1) If you are not connected to the internet, the tracks will be sent next time you play while connected to the internet. 2) No need to re-enter password nor anything. 3) If you close media player tracks are stored and sent later, see (1). 4. At the moment, switching off the phone will lose the tracks not yet scrobbled, but I'm working on fixing this. To keep things simple: just don't reboot your phone and rest assured that you'll scrobble your music sooner or later.

  • topbananageezer

so t just added another 3 tracks. but only 3. so it resets every time you enter your password and/or every time you switch off the phone and/or every time you close media player? do you need to keep media player open, and connect to the internet to update what you've been playing? there must be something i am doing wrong.

    Maggio 2010
  • topbananageezer

what am i doing wrong? it doesn't work. it scrobbled 4 songs once but usually not. do i need to use a particular connection? stay connected the whole time i play music? enter my password every time? what?

hey Thanks for the great job you are doing on the lastfm scrobbler for the N900 :)

    Maggio 2010
  • sect-ion

Oh yes, widget sounds great :) Jokes aside, thanks for answering. Didn't understand extensions for N900 media player aren't trivial. Thanks for the scrobbler anyway :)

  • csaavedra

"Love track" feature would need some sort of UI. I can't see any good way to integrate that with the mediaplayer (which doesn't really allow for UI extensions). I can't think of any other sensible place to add something like that. Maybe a desktop widget? Not sure.

  • sect-ion

http://www.last.fm/api/intro please mr. Saavedra, implement the "love track" -feature when you have some free time :) Or do you skip the web services authentication part altogether? If so, then I understand why the love is omitted because "Note: Currently a Last.fm web service must also be called to set love (track.love) or ban (track.ban) status. We anticipate that the next version of the scrobble protocol will no longer perform love and ban and this will instead be handled by the web services only."

Quick usage guide: Install: Last fm scrobbler is now included official application list, do not add extras-devel as instructed earlier! Just go to application manager, select install -> multimedia -> scroll to "Last FM scrobbler" and select it. Setup: Got to control panel (settings) - at the bottom there is "Last.fm settings", tap on it and enter your last.fm username and password. Using: Just play tracks with the builtin media player! Verifying it works: log in to last.fm using your web browser and check that new tracks are getting adding as you play music on n900.

i dont understand scrobbling - i thought it supposed to go to my media player playlist, on my n900 can someone explain why i cant get passed setting extra password stage and how do i physically see this is working

    Maggio 2010
  • voodmin

I think it would be better if track will be scrobbled not immediately but after several % of track length

arash_d1 It shows up under the N900 Settings, under Extras at the bottom. Took me a while to figure out too :)

Thank you for the plugin! Seems like the N900 is full of possibilities... Caching seems to work just like it should.

  • csaavedra

I released a new version, this one shouldn't have this problem. Please test it!

    Aprile 2010
  • csaavedra

It should cache them all, but there is a bug that makes it loose them sometimes. I have a preliminar fix and I'm testing it since yesterday. I will publish it as soon as I'm sure it works OK this time.

  • voodmin

How much records keeps this plugin in cache when staying offline?

    Aprile 2010
  • csaavedra

    extras-devel for now: http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-devel#How_to_activate_Extras-devel

    Aprile 2010
  • Hevisalo

    Where can I get it?

    Aprile 2010
  • csaavedra

cglew: it won't scrobble it straight away, but if played long enough, it will scrobble it later at some point (say, when you start playing again).

    Aprile 2010
  • cglew

Does this only scrobble once the entire track has played? Seems like it - when I stop a track five seconds from the end of a track, it doesn't scrobble. Great app though, bravo!

Scrobbling from my car now (Scrobbler app. + FM-transmitter + FM-boost). Got a Brodit holder and mount by ProClip too. And yeah, the Simple Brightness Applet to keep the display on.

Impressive! A bit of a hassel since i did not have the extra-devel in app.cataloge, but with some help from N900 group on FB it now works like a dream! Love it!
