Without doubt the hottest new trance DJ / producer to emerge from Holland this past couple of years is Richard Durand. Recommended by the mighty Tisto as his 'Tip For The Top in 2007' in DJ Magazine, Richard responded with a string of stunning productions, including official remixes for Tisto, culminating in a new entry placing in the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJs poll at the end of 2007.
The Richard Durand sound is trance, techno and tough electro in a unique package that's both dynamic and devastating. Having initially made his mark as a solo producer with big tech trance bombs such as 'Make Me Scream' and 'Slipping Away' on the Terminal 4 label, the huge success of his remixes of Tisto singles 'Lethal Industry', 'Flight 643' and 'Break My Fall', plus infamous festival favourite reworks of the likes of Prodigy 'Smack My Bitch Up' and Snow Patrol 'Chasing Cars' soon had Richard Durand marked as one of the hottest remixers on the planet with consistent playlist support from the DJing elite Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Judge Jules and Eddie Halliwell to name but a few.
Richard Durand continued to deliver big tracks in 2008, adding his magic touch to Fragma 'Toca's Miracle' and stepping up to rework Armin van Buuren 'In And Out Of Love' to equally devastating effect. At the same time, Richard's solo productions were also hitting the headlines; his 'Weep' track featuring Skin from Skunk Anansie on vocals was signed to Perfecto and proved to be one of the summer's biggest anthems.
It was also 2008 that saw the Richard Durand DJing schedule explode into overdrive as the dance community embraced an artist who was not only a hot producer, but also one of the most technically accomplished DJs in dance music today. Utilising 4 x CD decks and effects units, Richard Durand DJ sets are a whirlwind journey of cutting edge tunes, exclusive reworks, slick mixing and technical wizardry behind the decks. His ability to work crowds into a frenzy and a clear passion about his music have cemented Richard Durand's place as a fans favourite the world over and a legend in the making.
Richard Durands show-stopping sets and crowd pulling DJ status is confirmed by his DJ diary reading like a who's who of A-list events, headlining global festival brands such as Sensation, Trance Energy, Planet Love, Coloursfest, Tunnel Electrocity and Summer Of Love, plus leading club brands including Godskitchen, Gallery, Gatecrasher and Slinky, a standout summer residency at Judgement Sundays in Ibiza and tours to every corner of the globe. He's also joined the exclusive set of DJs to be awarded a coveted 'Essential Mix' on BBC Radio 1, as well as co-hosting shows twice with Judge Jules on Radio 1.
In 2009 Richard Durand clocked up another huge remix, this time of Art Of Trance 'Madagascar', before setting another landmark on his rapid career path to the top by releasing his debut artist album 'Always The Sun' on Magik Muzik / Black Hole Recordings. The album has spawned three massive singles already; 'Into Something', title track 'Always The Sun' which had heavy playlist rotation on dance music TV channels worldwide, plus the latest smash 'No Way Home'. With dedicated album release dates and support tours in various territories worldwide, expect Richard Durand's star to shine brightly into 2010.
Sied Van Riel
The Riel Deal: From the prolific electronic dance breeding ground that is The Netherlands, with close to overnight speed, in 2008 he landed. In that year alone he was tipped by Tisto as the hottest producer around, by DJ Magazine as the next big thing to hit trance and took home Trackitdown.nets Trance Award for the scenes Best New Face. 12 lightning-fast months later hed qualified all those early markers through a fleet of equatorially hot track releases, club-hypnotizing DJ performances and a next-level remix ethic. In 2009 he played over 60 show-stopping sets (which included spinning at an incredible 7 world-class events in just 9 days). It was an achievement which culminated in him making his debut on DJ Magazines Top 100 2009 DJs chart at No.85. Hes the latest DJ to graduate to trance musics Van Clan hierarchy. He is Sied van Riel...
The Riel-eases: Following several notable early years releases (including Fearless on Subtraxx and the PVD-championed My Dreams on Expedition), Van Riel started to beat a path to the dancefloor. In 2007 he was signed to Dutch super-label Spinnin Records; a move which bore immediate fruit through dancefloor bullets like Changing Places, Sigh and What You Want. With the quality-control locked in place, his production career went supernova as Contrasts, Minimal Symphony, One/Two & Riel People Know brought mayhem to dancefloors throughout 2008. In August of that year the track Rush was un-caged and marked not only a first release through Tistos Black Hole Records but also Sieds vital breakthrough record. Thrashed by Armin, Ferry Corsten, PVD and (naturally enough) Tisto, its nu-skool tech-trance sound surged through the worlds festivals and arenas. The Liquid Recordings released MME (which was part of the Dedication EP) & Mongoosed, and the Black Hole follow-up Sunrise arrived in 2009, provoking similar floor-quaking upheaval.
The Riel Floor-Rocker: Sied cut his DJ teeth early in his career playing at events like Germanys illustrious Love Parade and Tistos round-the-world ISOS Tour. FFWD three years and he is become a essential mainstay of festivals and arena events, which have included the goliath Netherlands Trance Energy, Armins country-hopping ASOT400, the 4-gig-long Trance Energy Australia tour, Gatecrashers 15th Birthday event, Planet Love and the legendary Crobar in Buenos Aires. Through far-sighted track selection, marksman-like mixing and an intrinsic ability to read crowds he has raced through the ranks of DJs. This rise was brought into the sharpest possible focus when Van Riel entered the DJ Magazine Top 100 Chart in 2009 at No.85.
In Riel Time: In late August of 2009 Sied released his first CD compilation. A double disc outing, In Riel Time Vol.1 became the ultimate at-home, in-car platform to experience the Van Riel sound. It proved a sales smash on Beatport and was made Album of the Month in Mixmag. The magazine noted that Sied had rapidly gained in status over the last year and that the album itself brought with it one intense peak-time track after another.
Sied4Life: In late 2008 Sied became an official Dance4Life Ambassador. Donating tracks to the D4L albums and DJing at fund-raisers for the charity (which works to improves the lives of HIV and AIDS sufferers and create awereness), he is a proud member of the charitys team.
The Riel-Mixes: For the last 3 years Sieds been lending the Riel touch to tracks from Europe finest trance labels (including Armada, Black Hole, Spinnin, Flashover and High Contrast). In that time hes captured the minds of music lovers, re-touching tracks by luminaries like Armin van Buuren & Ferry Corsten and Offer Nissim.
The Rielalistic Radio Show: Following numerous radio appearances (inc. Ministry of Sound UK, Sunshine Live Maximal, Germany & Radio 538 in The Netherlands), Sied launched his own radio show, Rielalistic in 2008. Transmitted every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month on www.ah.fm, it has immediately drawn a loyal listener-ship.
The Riel Pronunciation: Thats Seed van Real trance-spotters and accuracy fans!
Dutch DJ/producer JOOP has already cemented his place at the top level of international trance. The man whose tough, progressive tech-trance style has set dance floors on fire the world over is now proving to be a titan in the studio as much as behind the decks. The Netherlands, then Europe, now the States, Asia and Australia have all fallen under his spell and when you hear his tracks or see him play, it comes as no surprise.
Since the tender age of 13, dance music has been an all-consuming passion for JOOP. Progressing from a residency in his hometown to some of the biggest venues and festivals in the world, his sound pushes the boundaries, leaving audiences in awe. His production work is in constant demand, with the biggest names permanently featuring him at the front of their CD wallets.
It was his first four tracks that bought him to global attention. Act Of God, The World/Another World and Sonsuz instantly established him as a producer of great skill and were hammered by the great and the good. As with any talent, everybody wanted a piece, and remixes soon followed for the likes of Leon Bolier (Lyra), Splitscreen (Boomblasta), Activa (Genetic) and Love Never Dies (Moonbeam v.s. Tyler Michaud feat. Fisher). With backing from one of the most highly respected and credible imprints in The Netherlands, High Contrast, JOOP is, with no exaggeration, the name on everybodys lips.
In 2002 he was chosen to mix the prestigious Trance Energy compilation, one of the most awesome festivals in his homeland and indeed the world, it was to be the start of a beautiful relationship. Playing for Trance Energy, as well as other iconic events such as Mysteryland, Sensation, Innercity to name but a few, the JOOP sound began to spread. When the organisers of Trance Energy handpicked his epic track The Future as their official anthem for 2007, it was the stamp of approval that many feel had been long overdue. Performing The Future live on the main stage as the centrepiece of the night, it was clear for all to see JOOP had arrived. After the great success of The Future High Contrast Recordings (the label where JOOP is signed) asked him to mix the High Contrast...presents... album. Again JOOP showed his skills as a musical talent, which is not only producing and doing a set at the most prestigious events of the world, but also having the profession to mix a double-CD album containing the best trance tracks at that moment.
But this is by no means a man content to sit on his laurels. His remix for Santiago Nino, Spark/Re-Charge was picked up by DJ Preachs Relic Recordings and made some major waves and his tracks Hold On and 3008 received support from A-lists artists.
With his diary bulging and his studio a sensation, JOOP is proving himself an artist who grabs hold of every opportunity that crosses his path. This is trance at its finest this is JOOP!
