Lead Rock Mandolin?! The next step to JPJ's mando use in Led Zep?! I love the songs that my friend Kyle Wood is writing/re-working for his 2010 rock n' roll solo album featuring the mandolin as a full-fledged lead rock instrument. Kyle's indie sound and high, powerful and emotive vocals are sure to appeal across many genres. I recommend Kyle's new music to fans of indie, alternative, classic rock, alt country, and Americana. Kyle is out of Nashville TN and was formerly the mandolinist and lead singer/songwriter (+ Tim May) for the cutting-edge newgrass band Crucial Smith who, in their heyday in the 1990s, played Telluride, Winfield, the IBMA, etc. Check out Kyle's active Facebook fan page at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kyle-Wood-Newgrass-Mandolin-Rock-2010-from-Nashville-TN/213577402702?ref=ts for new in-studio video. If you like Old Crow Medicine Show, Avett Brothers, Felice Brothers, etc, then I can't recommend Red Clay River highly enough -- I am so freaking addicted to this band. I get stuck on the EP in particular, and just play it on repeat for hours. Effing amazing. And live -- these guys are even better live than recorded, absolutely breathtaking. If you ever get the chance to see one of their shows, *don't miss it*. They are the sound of memory, feeling, and perseverance in Appalachia.

I really don't understand why the "Beatles" are the #1 or #2 band on every alt-country / americana / etc type of group. And given the charter stated for this group specifically, that seems particularly ridiculous. I know I'll be flamed as some kind of blaspheming jerk, but frankly I can't stand the Beatles. Every new anthology that comes out is just another cheap manipulation to keep up sales for a band that doesn't tour anymore and doesn't produce new music. I'm glad they existed, and grateful for their contribution to music history -- but I sure am sick to death of them.

In response to what spideralbert said about "music is almost an accessory to the ever-growing "Indie" crowd," that's the damn truth. Its just as Paul Westerberg, singer/songwriter of the Replacements, criticized hair metal bands for "not wearing makeup and playing guitar, wearing a guitar and playing makeup." Wise words

I love this group. It puts basically all other message boards/forums/discussion pages of its kind to shame, in my opinion. I hate how music is almost an accessory to the ever-growing "Indie" crowd, where they seem to take music (that can be quite good)and display the fact that they listen to said bands simply to seem more interesting or unique. Music shouldn't be about being cool. That is a degradation of the art form. This sad fact had caused me to generally keep my mouth shut on the subject, not because of a lack of desire to discuss the musicians I admire, but because it seems someone else would either critique my tastes because I'm not listening to what's hot, or agree with me for some shallow, superficial reasons. However, this page has brought sharing bands back into my life. So thanks. Have a good night. PS- Somebody hit me up with a shout once in awhile if they have listened to
