so, eh. heard any good music lately?

I just started listening to Electric Light Orchestra and they are a lot of fun. Its so funny because some of their songs sound just like Air , its interesting to hear the roots of another band and slowly putting it together.

so, what are you listening to?

    Your Mom, of course.

And if there is a band out there by the name "your mom", I take it back.
Seriously, you know I've been obssesed with the acoustic type music: From simple stuff like Joe Purdy, to the "post-rock" goodnes that is Mice Parade. I still listen to stuff that's electrified (
VAST is kind of interesting), but it just doesn't spark my fire like it used to. But hey! Tastes change.

    Endless Musics!!!

I recently got an album's worth of music: chants, madrigals, motets from the 12th to 14th century. All of that old music has a really interesting quality to it -- their conventions for harmony were a bit different than the so-called classical era, and maybe even today.

Also I started listening to this experimental/atmospheric group called Gas. They take old vinyl classical recordings and stretch out the samples to the point where you can't recognize it, but still sounds cool...

And to even it all out I've been listening to Lapalco; Our Endless Numbered Days; and The Life Pursuit.
    Good tunes, good times!

  • New...yes, kind of

I've been hooked on the Old 97s for about the past year, and now that their lead man, Rhett Miller has released his second solo album, I'm ecstatic. I picked up The Believer yesterday, and am still just as pleased, if not more, as at first listen. He definitely clashes with my normal style, but in a very good way.

  • Seems that we can have a real convo in here...amazing. Started listening to Why? and now i am addicted to Elephant Eyelash.

  • The Clientele

I have also pulled out The Clientele's Strange Geometry from a couple of months ago. Love it!

  • I'm totally into Hot Chip, been for a while, but I've found some other great bands lately, like Tender Forever and Her Space Holiday. Swedish band The Embassy is great as well. And the surprisingly unknown Summer at Shatter Creek. All these bands are pretty mellow. And how I love them, oh, how I love them..

I'm a sad and lonely xylophonica band:

    hot chip

I went to see Hot Chip recently and they were sooo awesome! their new stuff sounds really good too. I can hardly wait for their new album...

  • The song 'The Warning' from their new album is my favourite song at the moment. I'd like to see them live as well.. I think. For some reason I usually like bands less after I see them live. Maybe I expect too much or something.

I've had that experience with many bands also... I don't like seeing movies based on books I've read for the same reason, kind of ruins it.

I didn't really know what to expect from them, but they were great performers. Definitely worth seeing if they are playing near by.

I saw Built to Spill live, and I loved it more than their recordings.
    Ah, well.

Ed Harcourt's album "From Every Sphere." It's lovely.

  • Jim Noir's album Tower of love has really caught my ear. Also I've been a fan of the band Summer at Shatter Creek for some time now. Incredibly beautiful music.

  • The Rhombus, a.k.a. Cody Hennessy is a fabulous band, or artist, whatever. Great lo-fi. And also danish band Oh No Ono, they remind me of The Dickies and The Adicts, two of my old favourite pop punk bands :) Both bands can be found at myspace: http://www.myspace.com/therhombus
