  • Quest for the Top Listener

This is my goal: to find the person on who has the most total tracks played.

The most I've seen is about 100,000. Do you have more than that? Do you know someone else who has more than that?

Comment if you think you have the most on all of, or atleast point me in the right direction by posting a high listener's profile.

    Let's do this.

  • iPod Ain’t What It Used To Be

    9 Jan 2007, 04:01 by sdrawkcabton88

So I recently got a new iPod while celebrating a little holiday known as Christmas. The Black 30 GB Video. Yes I know, fancy. It’s a pretty big change from my old Silver 4 GB Mini, the first of its kind. There are some things I like about my new one, and some things I don’t like so much.

    Things I Like

    Size (GB)

Obviously the best part of the upgrade, the fact that I can fit over 7 of my old iPods into my new one. Now I can finally fit all my music without having to delete old artists to include the whole gang. My songs/videos now even have plenty of leg room.

Inside and out: big differences. For one, now I can see in COLOR! And the album is also listed! And album art! Pictures… VIDEO! All of this was a mere fantasy back when I purchased my Mini. In addition to that, the size of the screen has more than doubled, and instead of the clear like material being placed into the frame of the iPod, the new screen is meshed up against the outside cover. Perfect.

    Battery Life

I can’t get this thing to die. My Mini goes within two hours on a full charge. I know, it needs a new battery, but even when it was fresh, it never lasted over 6 hours.

The new model is much more comfortable. They fit nice and snug in my ears. With my old buds, my ears would get irritated after about two hours of wearing, but these new ones are great. Don’t even notice they’re there.

I like how it came with Apple stickers in the box. And that nifty little black case is very handy. Also, my Video never (yet) freezes, unlike my Mini which froze the first day I got it, and had numerous problems when I plugged it into my Bose Sound Dock.

    Things I Dislike

    Click Wheel

The new click wheel is all flat, and is made of a more slippery surface. I liked on my Mini how the center button was raised, it helped for listening in the dark when it can be hard to locate the center button. I often find myself now raising/lowering the volume when all I want to do is rate a song or look at the album art.

I don’t know what it’s called but here’s the problem: sometimes when I click the right button to skip to the next track, it takes as much as 2 seconds to goto the next song. Hardcore lag. And occasionally I can feel the hard drive spin. Not that it’s a problem, but it’s there.

The Box and Stuff in/not in It

So when I bought my Mini, I was surprised about the size of the box. It was about the size of a Pop-Tart box. I just felt a little jipped. Great things should come in big boxes. Then when I got my Video, the box was half the size! Sure it looked sleek with Bono and Mr. Depp on the sides, but I still felt a little disappointed. Then I opened it and after marveling at the beauty of my new toy, I realized that Apple no longer includes a wall charging plugin. Bummer. I lost my old one that came with the Mini. It’s not a problem for me, cuz I can charge it in the Sound Dock, but I think lot’s of people would be happy to have that included. Also: no Firewire or little black cushion earphone thingy’s.

It’s hard to keep this bitch clean… the back is impossible to avoid smudging. And dust easily collects on the screen.

    The Final Judgement

Definitely better than my old Mini! The size and video capabilities overshadow its shortcomings in other areas. I guess I just need to get used to it.

    Anybody wanna buy a Mini?
