Description:
For people looking for iTunes library bliss.

For people obsessed with how their iTunes library looks. Need to have cover art for every single song? Titles should be capitalized a certain way? Freak out when you can't decide if a song that is both part of an album and a compilation should have one or the other cover art and you just end up having the song twice? Ok, I might be alone on that last one, but whatever your little iTunes-Library-OCD tendencies you can discuss them here.

I don't know how anal you all are, but I have to have FLAC files of everything in my library. If FLAC is not available, I will get the highest bit-rate possible. 99% is FLAC, with a few 320s, and 256s. The FLACs are saved on my external hard drive in a catalogue. The format is: Archive > Music > #-Z *I have 27 folders for every letter and for #* > Aesop Rock > Albums *Either albums, eps, live albums, singles, etc* > Labor Days > *FILES ARE IN THIS FOLDER*. Every folder has high resolution artwork, and it's named as "Cover". Everything in my iTunes library is v0 bit-rate, converted by me from my lossless FLAC and embedded is 500 x 500 artwork from the high resolution images I have gathered. Everything is properly tag, genre wise, *according to me*, titles, and the year of the album. I don't mess with lyrics, as most lyrics are incorrect on the web, and it would take years to manually input the lyrics I have for my library.

Not a feature I use anyway. Currently in iTunes, I have 5,602 songs (508 albums), consisting of 45.89 GB. I must have complete albums. If I like a song, I generally like the album, or learn to like it eventually. My FLAC collection consists of 158.37 GB. I am anal, but not that anal, right? No, that's not what she said.

Here's a nice iTunes controller (yes, another but this is good I swear!) with plenty of nice skins. Bowtie ( http://bowtieapp.com/ ) Also has last.fm scrobbling.

Oh yeah!, Dougscripts is really useful... recently found something to join already imported tracks that helped me with my audiobooks... so little activity lately, hopefully that can change; there are many things yet to be discussed

I don't think the Genius feature will ever replace a hand-picked playlist, however I do think it is very useful for throwing together a quick playlist for a road trip or something. The way i use it is, I usually like to go to bed with music on, so i just choose a song, let the "genius" do its thing and i have a fairly good playlist to sleep to.

Greetings fellow iTunes freaks.... I just want to know your opinion about the recently added "Genius" feature; what do you think about it? Have you gotten good results with it? or you think there's nothing like the good old fashioned handpicked playlist ?

yea, exactly my syndrome. every artists name has to be correct, the songs must be titled correctly and i often think hours about what the perfect description of the music style could be.

I also do everything manually most of the time... keeps it under control. About the cover art, I also use google but lately iTunes has been effective about that. One application for Mac/Win that you may find useful to tag songs according to mood is Moody ( http://www.crayonroom.com/moody.php ), check it out....takes a lot of time to have everything neat but it's nice for better playlists.

i usually use google images and sometimes i get images with a small gap of white in one of the edges and i go nuts! i have to go and modify the image to get rid of it hehe

Turns out TuneUp is still a little buggy for the mac so i decided not to use it for now, i'll keep obsessing manually. Where do you guys get your cover art?

Sounds good! I'm pretty excite about the future discussions here! Many things to talk about... maybe we should suggest a few ideas to start discussions or articles.... Have a good one!

Yeah same here, if its a concert i'll try to find a poster (rarely find it but still look haha), or a picture I took if it happens that i went to that concert. Also I found an interesting piece of software that fixes itunes libraries, adds all meta data using gracenote, gets artwork, etc, i'm gonna have to check it out, it is called TuneUp and there's been a windows version for a while but they just came out with a Mac version and i'm pretty excited, i'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Yep, that's pretty much the way I have my genres too... kinda subcategories. About the covers, when there's no artwork I usually make one that suits the band using Photoshop.... it's better than nothing :(
