    funky, funky

    Okay, after a couple of requests and enjoyment by some of Finger Lickin' Export by A.Skillz & Krafty Kuts, I figured a thread would be handy.

    3 record labels first spring to mind;

    Finger Lickin' Records (Run by Soul of Man)
    Marine Parade (Run by Adam Freeland)
    Jalapeno records

    There are more but these are the main ones I note

    You've got 3 main types of breaks outside the ones with their own genre names (DnB, breakcore etc), they are;

    old skool straight up breaks
    dat funky shit
    hip hop infused

    I'm going to go ahead and skip what I call the straight old skool breaks, people who cross into it and out are old and y'all know them anyway by now, artists like The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Freestylers, The Crystal Method, Junkie XL etc, etc so that leaves what matters, dat funky shit that gets the bootys bouncing and feet movin'

    Marine Parades Adam Freeland, Krafty Kuts (both Brightonions!) along with Plump DJs spearheaded what became known as nu skool breaks with the help of Annie Nightingale on Radio 1The Chill Out zone. Not fitting into the older style, and having more funk, house and soul infusion with a more prominent bass and a median BPM between 125/140, nu skool breaks were born and flourished alongside the more popular big beat into the late 90s and 2000s.

    As for the music, Marine Parade is more hip hop style with artists like Evil Nine and Adam Freeland, Finger Lickin' records were in the middle and then the other end of the spectrum has the much more funk influenced stylings. So, as for the artists themselves, I'll split 'em as follows;

    >Funky breaks
    2 Inda Bush, A.Skillz, Access Denied, Adam Freeland, Andy Page, Aquasky, Atomic Hooligan, BadboE, Basement Freaks, Ben & Lex, Brothers Bud, Bugz In The Attic, Deekline & Keith Mackenzie, Deekline & Wizard, DrumAttic Twins, Ed Solo & Skool Of Thought, Freq Nasty, fDel, Fort Knox Five, Future Funk Squad, General Midi, Hybrid, ils, Krafty Kuts, Lee Coombs, NAPT, Nick Thayer, NuBreed, Minuit, Plump DJs, Rennie Pilgrem, Slyde, Soul Of Man, Splitloop, Stanton Warriors, Tayo, The Beekeepers, Rennie Pilgrem, The Breakfastaz, Tipper, Uberzone the list could go on...

    >Breaky funk
    All Good Funk Alliance, Dr. Rubberfunk, Skeewiff, Smoove & Turrell, Soopasoul, Soul Hooligan, Freaky Jalapeno, Kraak & Smaak, Ikon, Max Sledgely, the list also goes on..

    >hip hoppy, rock-esque and other breaks
    Evil Nine, Sylde, Elite Force, Hyper, Flow Dynamics, Bassbin Twins, General Midi, Hybrid, and as you bring in other elements the list goes on and on and on...

    Here are some favourites / essentials to get you started, then, just rape those record labels and go off on your own tangent depending what grabs ya!

    Thanks guys. I really enjoyed Audiofdelity and Tricka Technology, didn't like Twin Stix (by Soopasoul) all that much. I'm gonna get more Krafty Kuts and whatever I like from your samples.

    I think it was probably due to the whole layout changeover thing.
