    Zuse: The First Zune-Last.fm plugin

Zune software has long been locked out from scrobbling to Last.fm. And to this day it actually still is. This is an indirect workaround.

Before I say more, this does work nicely but it is a beta release, so expect bugs. It is licensed under the GPLv3, which means it's open source.

    Download binaries and source http://code.google.com/p/zuse/downloads/list.

    Join our Last.fm group! http://www.last.fm/group/Zuse

Zuse requires the .NET framework 2.0.

I still start using the Google Code SVN repository soon.

If you want to know exactly how Zuse works, look at the source code, or ask me here. Please post any bugs here as well and I'll release updates for around every 2 bugs that need fixing.

Enjoy your early Christmas gift from me, Zuners! (Can't wait until I get my Custom Zune 80 on Christmas day!)

It's the name to your Zune Social card, shows up in the top right corner of the Zune software when you log into the Zune marketplace.

  • ah ok thanks! now some songs showed up but some tracks i don't even own and some i haven't even played and they showed up!??

i'll restart the zune sw & zuse and see

  • so is zuse retrieving the data from social.zune.net? that would explain the tracks i don't even own, sometimes zune social will log tracks i don't own for some reason - but it's usually the same artist.

*edit* - zuse keeps fetching the same batch of tracks. they look like they're all from my zune social profile and they're definitely tracks i haven't listened to in weeks now (and the ones i don't own also). i've submitted them three times and it's dead set on fetching the same batch over and over. sometimes i'll get the "found new songs" bubble and it'll just be blank, no tracks.

    any ideas?

oh i'll request an option to "select all tracks" & "remove selected tracks"

thanks alot for this, can't wait to get it working!

That feature has already been requested, the select all and deselect all has already been requested earlier in this thread.

As for the issue with Zuse fetching the same batch of songs is an issue that will hopefully be fixed in the near future.

  • -lol didn't see it.

-sweet man can't wait. and i did get it working.

so is there any chance of scrobbling from the software itself and not having to retrieve the data from social.zune.net? it seems like it should be possible since MS has the IUX so assessable now.

only about an eighth of my music is in the allmusic/zune.net databases.

I'm glad you got it working, Machiventa.

I problem recently came to my attension where the XML from the Zune Social profile retrieved is from the cache is always out of date. I'm working on fixing this for the 1.1.1 release.

    Thanks for your patience.

It works! I agree with the select all button or an automatic submission. It would be great if you could select a time interval for it to scan and submit all new tracks. Thanks a lot, this is really awesome!!!

you can already select a time interval, it's under the options tab in the newest version, 1.1

no songs are appearing for me :(

  • I've just installed it, and it said found new songs, but nothing is listed :(

    Am using Zuse 1.1.1

Also, when I test my Last.fm login, I don't get a response, so I don't know if it failed or succeeded

    I'll look into this guys,

But I also needed to say before, you MUST be signed into the Zune marketplace on the Zune software for Zuse to get any of the songs you're currently playing. Zuse doesn't get the songs you've played directly off your computer.

    This is how Zuse works:

    1.) You play a song
2.) That song is pushed to a custom XML feed on the Zune Social website, this will only happen when you're logged into the software.
3.) Zuse retrieves that one custom XML feed and extracts as much info as it can about the tracks.
4a.) Zuse uses to Yahoo's Music Search API and retrieve how long the song is in seconds because Last.fm requires this type of information on the track for it to be scrobbled.
4b.) If Zuse cannot find the song length for the track it will automatically default to what you've set as the "Default Song Length" when you configure Zuse in the settings dialog. This setting is under the "options" tab and is in seconds.

Hopefully that clears some questions up and as I said at the top I will look into the problems you guys are having. Thanks for your patience.

  • ok, in that case ignore my problem. I'm in the UK, so can't actually sign into Zune Marketplace, which would explain the problem I guess

  • it would be awesome if you could just retrieve the recently played tracks from the software itself. getting it fron zune social sucks balls, it's not true "scrobbling". i foresee a future version of zuse that'll be able to truly send every single track played to last.fm

    zuse ftw!

nope, all you need is the Zune software and Zuse. and actually because of the way Zuse works, you really don't even need Zuse on the exact same PC as the Zune software.
