so what DO you guys like.

  • so what DO you guys like.

Yes i could look at each of your pages but that sounds like a lot of effort. so just name a couple bands/artists you're into or genres that you like.
I have pretty broad tastes in music although i primarily listen to progressive rock, metal, jazz and IDM.
some of my favorite bands/artists are Yes, Death, King Diamond, Squarepusher, Rush, and Hermeto Pascoal

  • Lots of pop, folk, post-punk and assorted randomness.
Favorties in general: Neutral Milk Hotel, The Decemberists, Sonic Youth, and many more.
Stuff I've been digging lately: Lots os Eastern European stuff, Beirut, DeVotchKa, Boban Markovic Orkestar, Gogol Bordello, Golem, Kocani Orkestar, etc.

  • I love European electronic music. Bjork, The Knife, etc. I like a few rock bands such as Queen, Blondie and I love the Scissor Sisters. Serge Gainsbourg and Mylene Farmer are also good, but electronic music owns me.

  • Saw this group and had to join. Don't know how many times I've had to prove someone wrong who said "I like everything", mainly by playing them stuff I like!
    Anyway.

I like Industrial, EBM, Futurepop, Darkwave, synthpop, Power Electronics, Dark Ambient, Neofolk, Nerdcore, Underground Hip-hop, Ambient, Drone, IDM and the like. Some metal, punk or grunge is alright. Also classic rock is good at times. Of course if you check my profile it's obvious I mainly enjoy EBM, Industrial and futurepop.
    Some artists I dig.
Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assmebly, Alice in Chains, Throbbing Gristle, Nurse With Wound, Whitehouse, Hocico, Chemlab, Assemblage 23, Genocide Organ, Triarii, Death in June, Pink Floyd, Anathema, KMFDM, Coil, Clock DVA, Steve Roach, Optimus Rhyme, Necro, Haujobb...

If you see Kay, Tell him he may. See you in tea, Tell him from me.

I can't really pigeonhole myself to any particular musical stereotype, but um, I guess I like indie, new wave, classic rock and what I like to call really good pop music. See my tag of the same name.

    Some of my favorite bands/artists:
    The Cars
    The Beatles
    Belle and Sebastian
    Sonic Youth
    Roxy Music
    The New Pornographers
    Talking Heads
    The Clash
    Pixies
    David Bowie
    Wilco

but I really like a lot of different types of music. I'll listen to anything once.

All time favourites are Opeth, Pain Of Salvation, Maiden and Sigur Rós...current favourites include Beirut, Neutral Milk Hotel, Cult of Luna and Gravenhurst...

  • Ooh, I'd say:
    • Mainstream folk & acoustic
    • Some jazz & funk, but mainly mainstream stuff

    • Mainstream emo, and some black metal
    • Enter Shikari
    • Indie
    • Some punk & horror punk
    • Some classical, but mostly Mozart
    • However my main genre of music is good ol' ballsy blues rock: Hendrix, Doors, Led Zepp, etc etc.

    Make Cheese Not War
  • This going to be glaringly different from how everyone else interpreted this thread, but I don't care.

I have very quickly become an enormous Ladytron fan, and it doesn't hurt that they're probably the coolest looking band ever.

    Tough One

As far as genre goes I can list some that I find intreguing
    (in no particular order)
Progressive Rock/Metal (gotta hand it to folks who really ochestrate their work)
Afrocentric Rap (I really like groups such as Arrested Development who experiment with their "genre")
"Classic Rock" (Really that period right after Vietnam brought out a lot of people to fill the void of protest rock)
Bluegrass (especially those that really put in a lot of work like Bela Fleck, Allison Krause, and Nickel Creek)

That's about as much as i can think of right now

  • my all-time favourite band EVER: Rainbow. particularly the stuff between '75 and '78, and also their '95 album. I don't think they're actually on my charts right now but the song Temple of the King is the reason I ever really got into music in the first place.
Oh yeah and I love a lot of instrumental rock/metal stuff like Satriani, Vai, Ron Thal (Bumblefoot), Buckethead, Gilbert, Eklundh, Randen... and a lot more

  • I love grunge (Nirvana is my favourite) and Ska, and reggae........... Punk is always cool, and some classic rock too.

Gosh, this will take some time to name. Every time a person asks me, they should have patience to wait for me to write it.

Well, first I would like to say that in every main genre there is an artist that shows something good.

    I like:
All kinds of metal, especially symphonic/black/gothic
All that dark electronic stuff [EBM, darkwave, blah blah blah...]
Noise. Noise and industrial. Industrial and experimental. Three cheers for Avant-garde!
Alternative rock/indie. REAL ALTERNATIVE, NOT JUST THE SHIT THAT'S LABELED ALT. THESE DAYS...
Gothic rock, gloomy post-punk stuff, all that... Yep ^^
J-rock... Visual-kei... THIRTEEN cheers for JAPAN! They're perfect since I'm usually picky on the lyrics and the voices are great.
Old-school punk and very few of the modern punk rock
Somewhat-pop-somewhat-not [James Blunt and the like... Kinda jazzy... He's GOOD]
Classical music and modern composers - Beethoven and Yann Tiersen simply blow me away!
Ambient/new-age wows me from time to time as well...

  • I'm new but I was really drawn to the name of this group because I do not like everything.

I will admit that I will listen to a lot of music but there are some musicians that just give me a headache.

What I am not hip to is country music. There is some I can tolerate (I do like Willie Nelson!) and other music that makes me say -- what???

Gangsta rap - I like Onyx (Slam) but the rest. Sorry. And, I am a hip hop fanatic who worked in the industry for awhile!

    What I do like..

    Ambient
    Blues
    Classic
    Classic Rock
    Some Christian music
    Gospel
    Some goth (still exploring)
    Some anime (still exploring)
Conscious Hip Hop [A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul]
    Jazz
    R&B
Funk (I am a serious Prince fanatic. Fan since 1982.)
    Old school jamz
    Motown days
    1970s
World/International music especially African and French music.[I want to learn more about Japanese music]
    Some Pop
    80s mania
Go Go music (from Washington DC - ex. Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers)
    ...this is about the gist

I listen to a lot of shoegaze bands like Slowdive, Ride or Amusement Parks on Fire.

Although, perhaps a penchant for whinyness brings me to love bands like Placebo and The Cure on a regular basis, haha

Lately, I've had a taste for bands like Journey, though.

This sort of thing is always in transition, don't you think so?

  • I'm into Prog! Bands like Tool, Camel, Echolyn, Oceansize, Dredg,...
At the moment it's Opeth <3 I love the most.
I also like a lot of (alternative) Rock bands like Placebo and The Butterfly Effect.

I hate people saying "I listen to everything" *scream* ahhhh! So the issue of the group is my issue! =)

Wow! Someone else who loves Ladytron. I have my own cleaning business and I almost exclusively listen to Ladytron as I'm wandering the halls of sleepy office buildings thus explaining why it's not apparent in my charts.

Streetlight Manifesto (and anything Tomas Kalnoky has touched)

Ska, Ska, Ska and more Ska

Celtic Punk e.g. Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Amadan, The Street Dogs, and of course The Tossers

Old Jazz e.g. John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Satchmo (Louis Armstrong), Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Duke Ellington.

    The Cranberries

    Bollywood/Hindi

    J-pop

World (theres a lot to world music. Yes, I like tribal African music too.)

Punk e.g. Anti-Flag, White-Flag, Black-Flag, Bad Religion, The Unseen, Against Me!, Bouncing Souls, NOFX, Mad Caddies, The Living End, Rise Against, Pennywise, Rancid, Lagwagon, and more.

Breaking Benjamin (since before the radio stations and mass media realized Ben Burnley and Co's genius)

    Various Rock Bands

    Various Metal Bands

Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, and The Eyeliners

That is just a brief version of what I like.

I like pretty much every genre other than metal. That is what makes people say I like everything. Favorite artists are The Cure, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello.

  • Then you don't like everything considering all the various types of metal, not to mention all the other genres you are most likely unfamiliar with or have no deep interest in. :P (just giving you YDNLE asshole welcome)

But seriously though, it really annoys me when people get TOO specific in their descriptions of metal. Yeah, I know there's a difference between hair metal and death metal, between Poison and Slayer, but seriously, all the stuff like "technical symphonic melodic death metal?" Spare me the pretense. And I've seriously seen people who think they have diverse taste by just rattling off a list of different types of metal.

(And I do realize that this will probably get me called stupid. But really, whatever happened to general, all-encompassing genres? It's far too scrutinized nowadays.)

  • There is just too much (not a bad thing) music these days. You can't really just say "I like rock music" now without seeming extremely vague.

I do agree to some extent how annoying it is when metal fans (not to pick on them but they are known for this) attempt to have eclectic tastes by stating all the various types and sub-types of metal they enjoy.

Really this is a good thing when it comes down to the music and you remove the terminology. The variety around today allow modern music to be such an adventure with endless options for the listeners.

Oh yeah, I mean, medieval chants, etc. I do listen to more World than the average person though, but considering there are a billion World subgenres, I don't like or know them all, of course. *I* don't think I like everything - it is other people who think that.
