This is a group for all last.fm users who think that your music taste doesn't need to define how you behave, what you look like, how you talk and what people you enjoy hanging around with.

I'm annoyed by the mentality of all those people here who think that in order to "lawfully" enjoy metal music, you need to look like a hobo, all those people who think that you need to look like a thug to enjoy rap music, all those people who think that their music taste is an indication of being "holier than thou", "cooler", more "eclectic", and that this means anything in a global sense.

Define yourself through your actions, not through a mindset forced on you by a music "scene" and your angsty quest of becoming "different" than others, just for the sake of it. Scenesters: You are all different. In the same way.

You are not what you listen to.

Join this group if you agree.

Note: I don't care if you listen to Britney Spears, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, 50 Cent or even Dead Fetus, as long as you realize that your music taste is simply a personal preference and doesn't need to define you.

    I agree. People shouldn't act according to what they think certain fans would be like. Yes, sometimes you like the song because the lyrics are very compatible with your attitudes, but not always.

    No matter how much you reject letting your taste in music define you, it will, because you define your taste in music. One = the other. I'm pretty open minded, but I still like certain things more than others, no matter how much I try to enjoy everything. Therefore my personality defines my taste, and by proxy, my taste is a reflection of my personality. I see what you're getting at though. No need for tight jeans and an assymetrical hairstyle just because you like Bright Eyes.

    you are not what you listen to according to last.fm. you are not a bunch of static, objective tracks in various amounts. however, you are your own personal listening experience. you are what you listen to and NOBODY else can listen to in the same way. you are unique and spiritual. you will conceive heartfelt music in a unique and spiritual way. judged by its title, this group is right AND wrong.
