Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape is the most under-rated psychedelic songs of all time from one of the most versatile bands - Porcupine Tree.

A wonderfully psychedelic song by one of the most universally accessible bands of all time - Porcupine Tree. The song that gets faster and faster and faster and faster, until it can get faster no more. A fantastic mix of a plethora of guitar riffs and chords that all merge into one fantastic crescendo that can only be experienced by going on the journey that is Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape

Porcupine Tree did have a cassette-tape album named Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape which had a 20 minute version of the song - The Cross / Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape - its first part a superb cover of a Prince song, the second a deranged freakout with guest vocalist Malcolm Stocks attempting to hypnotise the listener. It was first featured as The Cross / Hole / Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape in the album Tarquin's Seaweed Farm. The song was shortened and later released in Staircase Infinities.

The real reason I joined was NOT so that I could find like minded people in music. It is just so that I could discuss about Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape. That was how obsessed I was. I even convinced a few people in my college to start listening to this song. Most of them threw me out of their rooms. But those who were willing to listen beyond the 3:30 minute mark, realized the reason behind all my effort.

The song is a beautifully orchestrated journey through space. And yeah, if you are high, it adds to the awesomeness of the song. But most of the time, you don't need to get high to enjoy this joyride. The song just becomes faster and faster and faster and faster. All the guitar riffs keep rebounding off invisible sheets surrounding your space pod, reverberating in the small interior... until there are way too many musical chords that they all raise to a splendid crescendo and climax for the best eargasm there ever is/was and will be.

"Thankyou. I'd like to hand you over now to an old friend of mine - Please welcome to the stage: Solomon St. Jermaine. Let's hear it."

"Good evening. I'd like everyone to join me in an experiment. Could everyone sit down please. Everyone relax.
I'd like to take you on a journey with me.

Open your hearts to the universe.
Let the light shine into your heart.
Be at one with the universe.
Open your mind. Come with me.

Everybody, join hands. Go on, link up!
Imagine yourselves in one large circle.

Close your eyes, empty your minds.
Imagine energy flowing from your hands to your eyes. receive with the left and give with the right.
Feel the energy flowing. Follow the energy with your mind.
Follow it round until you arrive back to yourself.

Give your energy to everyone! Keep the energy flowing.
Keep it flowing.

Now concentrate on the music.
Feel the music.
Let it flow through you.
Open yourself to the music. It is part of you.
You are the music.

This music is for you!

In the sign of cancer, on bass, Mr. Jelly!
In the sign of Capricorn, currently awaiting his solo return, on keyboards, Tarquin Underscore!
In the sign of Aquarius, on electronic treatment and acoustic guitar, Sebastian Tweetle-Blampton The Third!
On the cusp of Taurus and Gemini, on percussion, Timothy Tadpole-Jones!
In the sign of Leo, on drums, The Expanding Flan!
And on lead guitar, The Porcupine Tree!"

Unfortunately, I don't have too much information about this song anywhere on the web. I have collected a lot of info from Porcupine Tree's official website,, this wiki page and some descriptions from Youtube links. Please add on whatever info you get.

Oh and I just heard YHD for the first time and really liked it, especially the second half.

YHD has been re-mastered and can now be bought via Burning Shed. This version however does not contain The Cross/hole but just the rest of YHD (SW replaced it with "out"). So was The Cross/hole any good or should I just be content with what I've got?

God, I haven't myself listened to this masterpiece in such a long time! I am embarrassed to be the owner of this group. There is only one way to compensate - A YHD marathon

On the Insurgentes movie, there's a part that Steven Wiilson shows the paper on which the lyrics for the song were written by his childhood friend. It's a very nostalgic scene.
