Description:
Music is something universal, I don't like bands just because they're from Japan, I like their music because it's good and nothing more, J-Tags are something like reverse discrimination.

Simply... if you don´t like j-tags, join.

I really don't undestand why there is J-pop tag or J-rock I mean there are a lot of German rock bands who sing in GERMAN and we don't have a G-ROCK G-METAL G-POP tag. at all. for me, Rock, Pop, Metal it's the same, it doesn't matter in what language the people sing!! [2] And they can't even decide what does this silly term means xD Whoever defends this J-(genre) tagging is a douche.

no wonder the charts are full of j-rock. trying so hard to be hipsters and not happy at all that their ''underground'' music is tagged as popular. [2]

It's incorrect to use romaji tags, just like it is to use katakana for american bands.

I like bands only because they're japanese dealwithit.png [2] I don't know why, I'm not japanophile, but I do like some bands only because they're japanese. Like UVERworld, for example.

Just because an artist is from Japan doesn't mean that you have to use the J tag. If I'm listening to (Insert Japanese band here) and want someone similar to them, regardless of their nationality, I'd like the appropriate tags used. Not everything in Japan is J-Rock too! Just because they use guitars, doesn't mean they're J-Rock! This frustrates me to no end!

V No one is disputing whether it is considered a genre by anyone else; in fact the existence of this group acknowledges as an antagonist those who claim J-tags are completely legitimate. I won't say I hate the tag, but in the end it can't distinguish someone like Shiina Ringo from Ayumi Hamasaki, or Galneryus from Dir En Grey. It'd be much more helpful to categorize more specifically when one needs to discern whether an artist is worth checking out. The problem is, with the general scope of the "J-" tag, I could be listening to Dir En Grey when I want to find something similar to Galneryus, or listening to Ayumi Hamasaki when I want something more innovative like Shiina Ringo's music.

Something which is much harder to swallow than the tags is the habit using capital letters for japanese groups and artists.

The J-tag annoys me because alot of artists I like are tagged in a style they don't perform like alot of electro or industrial artists get tagged J-Rock when they haven't do anything remotely rock.

I like the tags, because when you want to scrobble a certain music from a certain country, you will get that certain music.

@Nagashiwa: we have these tags for german music: http://www.lastfm.de/tag/deutschrock http://www.lastfm.de/tag/german%20rock these terms have been used for over 40 years now

I wouldn't really mind J-tags, but the problem is that many people use them totally wrong. And that's why we have a very big number of Japanese artists tagged as j-pop or j-rock, even when their music is not pop or rock at all. :/

Agree 110% with MrRobotics; don’t understand either why people get so worked up over tags like this or even anime ones. Given the logic espoused here, c-tags and k-tags also “must never” be used to describe Chinese and Korean music respectively. Also, I’m sorry to say, moonra-zk’s shout far down below made my eyes roll… nationality of an artist is not a valid reason to justify why you like (or dislike, for other people) music from a certain country or countries. Good music is good music, regardless of origin and language.
