Do you like having an exponential profile?

I'm not sure... I don't really care I guess. It's just that I like so many songs of the one band. It's convenient to have a folder of 400 or so favourite songs to shuffle through at work, so the bands featured most prominently in there get played the most.

It's too bad that certain other bands I like haven't released more albums. Although, listening to those a lot would just make my chart more exponential.

  • i accidentally became an untrue listener with an exponential profile
because when i joined (about a week ago), it asked if i wanted to import my listening history from my media player and i said yeah
unfortunately/fortunately, i usually have musical ADD (or i obsess about 1 song and listen to it for hours on end) and tend to change the songs before ending so my play count should've been higher, lol
unfortunately because it looks like the strokes are my favouritest band ever (even tho they are really great) because i went through this phase where i would play the playfish game "word challenge" non stop and that was my mood song and it'd be on repeat in the background while playing (also, i am the current, and have been for months now, high scorer among my friends, i am own)
and fortunately because my play count would have been waaaaay higher and it'd be harder to make it true, lol.

but i don't really care, even if i didn't, i'd still have an exponential profile because of that obsessing thing i mentioned above. also, havign an exponential profile means you actually LIKE a band and you listen to them rather than leaving your player on random and walking away from the computer :)

  • I love my exponential profile! :P

  • I do, my #1 artist is my true love and I'm proud of it

  • If we wouldn't like it, it would only be because we'd be the kind of people who like listening to many different artists/albums/songs and if we'd be that kind of people, we wouldn't be the members of this group <_<

Love it. I possibly couldn't even imagine living without Shady's music.

  • I love of Montreal, I just wish that they didn't occupy every single one of my top tracks x_x
The only song not by them that managed to sneak in is My Girls by Animal Collective. I also wish it didn't make all the other bars for the other bands so small. They should make a way of shrinking the first few bars or something, like a broken bar chart.

  • It doesn't bother me, I just found a way to honor my favourite artist - more or less - in public. And I also know that I discovered many great bands lately, so I am progressing slowly.

I'm not bothered. If I really like an artist, I will listen to them a lot.
I thought I had more variety though. Apparently not. Oh well. =]

  • My top artist is truly my favorite. And yeah, I have over 79,000 plays of them...

But I also have six other artists with more than 10,000 listens. And 30 others with over 1,000. I think listening to a band thousands of times counts as liking them! So although I do listen to my top artist QUITE a lot, I still thoroughly enjoy a bunch of artists, and I don't feel totally unbalanced about that. :)

So I guess... yes! I like my profile.

(Full disclosure: Three of my over 10K artists are side projects of my top artist. So... yeah, I may be a little obsessed.)

  • I dont have a exponential profile. I just listen to what I listen to and dont worry about meeting the standards of groups anymore.

I don't listen to music exponentially the way I used to. I spent 2.5 years listening up an exponential storm before I got tired of it, so it's going to take forever to flatten out again. I don't necessarily want it to flatten out too much, because I still like this group. I doubt I will ever reach the "magical" 4.0 AEP!

Extremely exponential profile looks lame. They're unaesthetic. But magical divine 4.0 profile isn't really better. So horribly flat... Having 15th artist's bar length 1/5 of top artist's would be optimum.

  • I suppose it's fair.

  • I do feel like I listen to a fair share of artists, I just listen to my favourites a lot more.

  • I'm slightly annoyed with mine because a scrobbler glitch added around 1000 scrobbles for my top artist that never actually happened. But that's more about me being ocd about having accurate charts.

I dunno, I think planning listening habits around the cosmetic appearance of last.fm charts is really sad. When someone keeps coming back to certain artists, they seem to be getting a lot more out of the music they like as opposed to some non-exponential user profiles I've seen that have 1000000 scrobbles of artists they've each listened to only a couple dozen times in the past 5 years.

Maybe you're not as obsessive as I am. If it happened to me, I would go and delete the 1000 plays, one by one. I think you'd just need to be aware that if you delete all the plays on page 96, then the next 50 plays will move to page 96, so you'd have to refresh the page rather than going to the next one.

You know what? I actually do.
It's not that exponential on general tracks anyway, there's only a BIG difference on the artists, but I really DO listen to Taylor Swift a lot. lol
I also tend to leave some songs on repeat for hours, so some have a way higher play count for that. lol

I may just do that eventually. I just hate the tediousness of it all..Maybe I'll delete 10 a day lol.

  • I'm ok with my exponential profile. I wouldn't have listened to my top artists that much if I didn't like them, right?

    I don't mind.
I could listen to Klaus Schulze 24/7 without boredom.

  • I don't care how my profile looks. I'm not going to change my listening habits just to alter my charts. I listen to the music I like -because- I like it, not because it makes my charts look pretty/ugly or whatever. :)

So I neither like nor dislike having an exponential profile.

I don't like it because it gives a false impression that I narrowly listen to power-pop music when I actually listen to a wide variety of things

Exponential and proud. It's good to try a wide variety of things, but equally rewarding to pay more single-minded attention to something you know you get a lot out of.

  • Yep, happy with mine. Both my top artists have huge discographies so I don't get bored with them and it shows I love 'em.
My third artist is a side-project of my first, if they'd brought out more records they'd be up there too :)
