We Don't Have Exponential Profiles » Discussions

Why do you have a non-exponential profile?

  • Like everybody here, I like different types of music. I don't like listening to the same song over and over again. For instance, right now I have 46233 plays and the song I've listen to more ( WeezerIsland In The Sun) has just 18 plays. Some girl I know told me about this group and when I first got here my AEP was 4.55 (if I remember correctly) and it's been around that ballpark the times I've checked again .

Because there's so many artists I like and I'm always discovering something new I like and I'd be bored as fuck if I only listened to a few artists. There's so much good music in so many genres, I can't imagine just limiting myself to a few.

I'm not entirely sure. I think it's luck. If you look at my old profile it's obvious how obsessed I can get with certain artists. The only reason that's not happening now so much is because I start to realize I'm obsessing and make myself stop and listen to something else.

  • i like a really wide range of music as seems to be rather common.

I really enjoy looking for and listening to new music that I've never heard of and side projects and the like.

Finding a great new band before breakfast is a great feeling only slightly diminished when you find out they broke up

  • I have non exponential charts because I cannot stand to listen to the same things too many times in a row.

I live on variety and try to be as open minded as possible.

  • Me too, I have a huge music library because I listen to a lot of different music.
From Johnny Cash to Death Angel, I love it all.
Most of the time, I just shuffle through it all, or depending on my mood I listen to an artist that fits that.

  • just because music is sooo rich ! lol i listen to every style, every kind from everybody.

The mandatory thing is, that is must still be music, so not evertything fits me, me most of it.

  • There is just so much out there. I just want to listen to it all! I want to listen to everything from IDM to technical death metal! It's all good to me! :D

  • genre phases are where it's at.

  • I like alot of different types of music. That alone accounts for a lot of it.

Also, I am constantly asking others for suggestions. I may like it or I may not. But, I will definitely give it a chance. I find out about a lot of bands/groups/artists I have never heard of (that I do end up actually liking), just by asking my last.fm friends to recommend me artists right after I friend them.
Also, I like to look through the stats of people on here (who are listening to artists I like) to see if they have some listed I haven't listened to, just so I can go check the artists' music out.

And, my father buys CDs in lots a lot of the time, which (again) turns up some bands/artists or songs that I don't know of that get added to my collection. I am constantly ripping CDs to the PC to put on the external to listen to.

I think that what one plays varies by who they are around at the time as well. I know that my brother and his wife are not into my Japanese/Korean music, so I play a lot more music that's in English when they are around.

Well, in fact, I have kind of an exponential profile but instead with 1 band i have it with some, so even if I like a lots of music and bands, there are like 20 or so who are my most favorite and I've been listening to them for years and I still do. But if I only listeded to those, I would get bored of music and life!!!

  • I go through short but intense musical obsessions, therefore my favourite artists don'y have a huge amount of plays but they tend to be clumped together by play count.
