  • Why? EP

    28 Mar 2011, 14:06

Behold the latest release from itsu jitsu netlabel - Why? EP by Corroded Master.

Crunchy, bounding, pounding distorted beats couple with quick fire vocal samples and quasi-musical segments to compose hard edged, slowly evolving noisescapes, full of interesting textures and shapes. Put it on, crank it up and enjoy a journey into the mind of Corroded Master.

  • **NEW RELEASE** I Am The Hand: The Sandwich **NEW RELEASE**

    14 Feb 2011, 19:40

Here for your listening pleasure is the first release from Glasgow born, Texas based sonic manipulator I Am The Hand. Some tracks are minimal in composition whilst others are bursting at the seams with hard to identify sonic sources. One thing is certain however, they are always engaging and faintly disturbing. So sit back relax and enjoy a journey into these glitchy dark ambient soundscapes composed of granular noise, feedback, sampled conversations and processed drum machine rhythms.

Stream it here on last.fm > The Sandwich

Head over to the New Releases page of the itsu jitsu site and stream or download it in your choice of digital audio format.
  • Best Albums of 2011 / Upcoming Releases

    10 Jan 2011, 20:47 by hurricane_mario

RIP this journal. Here's the upcoming releases I actually care about:
Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events
Devin Townsend - Ghost 2 (September)
Nightwish - Storytime (Single September, Album December)
Old Silver Key (Alcest) - Tales of Wanderings (Sept 16)
We Came As Romans - Understanding What We've Grown To Be (9/13/11)
    Angels & Airwaves - LOVE PART 2 (11.11.11)
Lunar Aurora - ? (December, hopefully!)

    2011 Releases:
    1) Format is "Artist - Album (Genre) (Best songs, if I so choose)"
    2) Note that these ratings are based on the album as a whole, not individual songs. This includes production quality, how cohesive all of the songs sound, etc. I definitely prefer concept albums, which progress through a story or similar type of thing.
    3) You will note I have a fairly eclectic taste in music. The fact is, if I listened to the album in it's entirety, it's going in here. If I couldn't finish, it's 2.5 or below, or not in here. Also (obviously) if it's bad it's 2.5 or below.
    4) I feel the need to add "...blew away expectations" or "...disappointment" to the end of some of these. Should be self-explanatory.
    5) Please comment/dispute these and recommend releases I missed!

    1. Woods of Desolation - Torn Beyond Reason (Atmospheric/Depressive Black Metal) (The Inevitable End, November) ...blew away expectations

    4. The Project Hate MCMXCIX - "Bleeding The New Apocalypse (Cum Victriciis In Manibus Armis)" (Melodic Death Metal) ("Iesus Nazarenus, Servus Mei", "Summoning Majestic War")

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - Tao Of The Dead (Alt/Indie rock) ...blew away expectations
Dornenreich - Flammentriebe (Black Folk Metal) (Flammenmensch, Erst Deine Träne Löscht Den Brand)

Helrunar - Sól (Black / Pagan Metal) (Rattenkönig, Sól)
Moonsorrow - Varjoina kuljemme kuolleiden maassa (Atmospheric/Folk Black Metal) ...disappointment

Amon Amarth - Surtur Rising (Melodeath) (Töck's Taunt - Loke's Treachery Part II, Doom Over Dead Man)

Lifelover - Sjukdom (Depressive Black Metal) (Led By Misfortune, Nedvaknande)

    Dead Channel - Un-X-pressed (Nu-Metal / Industrial)

  • My favorite (mostly metal) albums of 2010 - Final list!

    30 Dec 2010, 23:55 by hurricane_mario

I am fairly open-minded (as you should be), so expect any genre in here, though metal is definitely my favorite. However, I usually won't bother to review non-metal releases unless it's one of the extremes - really good, or really bad and I feel like trashing it. Though, I'm just realizing that my taste has shifted away from metal even more this year...

This is my final list, containing almost every album I have listened to which came out in 2010. I will not be updating this entry any more unless someone enlightens me to something super-fantastic that came out this year that I missed. I can’t believe 2010 is over already, it seems like yesterday it was new years eve, and now it is tomorrow again. I will likely not do a list like this again next year, its too much work. But it's been fun and a good way to keep track of the excessive amounts of music I like. Perhaps next year just a top 20 and other great ones.

A playlist including one song off each of the top 20 albums and 7 other songs, is up on my blog as of 1/9/11... Go download it (link in my profile)! Songs with an asterisk next to them are on my blog, I will try to get all the top 20 (Except Alex Band due to a complaint) on the blog by the end of January.

Bold albums are a must-listen! Top 20 are in order, rest of categories are alphabetical. " ...disappointment" means albums I could not wait for did not meet or exceed expectations.

Keep in mind, I am rating these albums as a whole, not judging it based on the quality of particular songs. For example, if there are no songs that stand out as good, but the album is a concept album that reveals to me the meaning of life through music, it would probably be #1. Production is a BIG part of my review process as well, it's 2010 so I want my albums to sound futuristic, refined and shiny!

And please comment, either to debate my reviews or to recommend me albums I don't know about!

  • My Favorite albums of 2010. Updated 12/3

    1 Sep 2010, 19:10 by hurricane_mario

I am fairly open-minded (as you should be), so expect any genre in here, though metal is definitely my favorite. However, I usually won't bother to review non-metal releases unless it's one of the extremes - really good, or really bad and I feel like trashing it.

Top 10 in order, rest of categories are alphabetical.

" ...dissapointment" Where albums I really wanted did not meet or exceed expectations.

    bold is a must-listen!!

And please comment, either to debate my reviews or to recommend me albums I don't know about!

(If you want to read huge reviews for albums through july, go here. I got tired of doing the reviews and it's too much to read.)

    * = These albums are on my blogspot... click the link in my profile if you want to hear them. ... Watch for a 74-minute "Best of 2010" playlist at the end of the year :)

    "Top 10" Updates:
March 17 - Almost time for someone to get kicked off the top 10! How exciting.
March 20 - Rage + Troll kicked. Replaced with Alcest + Les Discrets. I knew they would make it into my list.
March 27 - True kicked because I simply haven't listened, whereas other albums have been on constant repeat. Replaced with Sofa Surfers.
April 24 - Sorry I've been pretty busy with school and whatnot, so I am not trying as many albums as I want to, and definitely am not even touching this journal even though I want to. Wilds Forlorn kicked for Mago de oz. Finally, cause i heard this album 2+ weeks ago.)
June 16 - Tough choice, but had to make room for Lantlos. Sorry Kalmah.
June 17 - Kicked 8,9,10... Mago De Oz, Counterparts, Six Magics, cause I'm realizing they don't quite match up to the others. Added The Breathing Process because I suddenly realized how revolutionary it sounds.
July 10 - Not reviewing Senmuth albums anymore unless there's something phenomenal, as the rate of releases is overwhelming. If he takes his time to really flesh out his vision we get something amazing and unique like "Секененра" but most of his releases are good (7/10) at best.
July 27 - The Breathing Process re-kicked (lol) for some new stuff that I have been very addicted to (Including kalmah which I previously kicked but now I love more, go figure). Tough choice but there's only 10 slots. Have a feeling I'll extend it to 15 or 20 by years end.
Aug 31 - Alcest kicked for Angra.
Oct 22 - Burzum and Analog Rebellion kicked because I simply haven't listened. I've been addicted to Arid and Rev. Renaissance.
Oct 24 - Kalmah kicked for depreciation guild

    23 Jul 2010, 01:11 by Knauf88

J.Bennet of the Decibel magazine interviewed recently the brazilian titan of metal Max Cavalera (Cavalera Conspiracy, Soufly, ex- Sepultura) who talked again in a possible reunion of his old band, Sepultura.

Decibel: - Were you offended when Sepultura decided to maintain the name after your leave?

Max: - "No, but isn't the same thing. And I'm not the only one who thinks this way. Much of the fans think the same. I felt betrayed when something that is yours is took away.... It is just betrayal. But it was something hard because my brother was in teh band. Musically I got over this quickly, because I was so busy with Soulfly that I didn't have time to get angry.

Decibel: - Now Sepultura is without you and Igor(Igor Cavalera, ex-Sepultura, Cavalera Conspiracy). Isn't that strange?

Max: - "They can play with the name Sepultura, but me and Igor hold the spirit with (Cavalera) Conspiracy. So the name Sepultura can be alive, but there's nothing inside. What I do now with Igor is the most possible thing like a reunion that can happen, but is better because we're playing new songs and I couldn't ask more than this. "

Decibel: - You talked to Andreas Kisser (Sepultura's lead guitar) or Paulo Xisto (bass guitar) since you leaved Sepultura?

Max - "No, none of them, but people said that thing between me and Igor was fake. People on Europe said: "You two went to vacancies with the family together and say to the press that dont speak". But this wasn't fake. I spent a long time without talk with Igor and I still don't talk with other members. It's kinda strange, but how the things went with Igor, there is a possibility that we play some gigs with Paulo and Andreas. I'm very open about a reunion - same with the members of the first Sepultura lineup of the 10 years ago when we did something that I call "death metal boot camp", before going to United Sates. That were good years when we didn't know how to play and didn't play anything, but these years were very important to me and Igor. That Sepultura's lineup was very important and I think much people forget this.Without these years, 'Chaos A.D.' or 'Roots' would never existed, because that was the foundation; the beginning of everything, so if there is a reunion, I would like to invite these members to show to the world something deeper, different from the classic formation."

  • Weekly Lyrics Ep.1

    11 Jun 2010, 22:30 by CrashRHCP

As of today, I, CrashRHCP, will present you with the lyrics of a song once a week.
This is my first try at something like this, so please leave a comment with a feedback!

Lyrics of today: Pink Floyd - Time from the album The Dark Side Of The Moon.

Artist: Pink Floyd became one of my favorite bands simply because of their lyrics, i think they are amazing, and so i decided that my first song would be one of them. Maybe i could have chosen one better, but i liked this one. For the ones who doesn't know this marvelous band, Pink Floyd are an progressive and psychedelic rock band. They are known for their lyrics and that special sound that made them who they are now.

Song: This song was made in 1973, and is one of the tracks of the Dark Side Of The Moon album, which is, till today one of the most well succeeded albums of all time. Every song on that album talks about elements of a persons life, and this one,as it should be obvious, talks about time. One thing worth mention about this too, is that it contains a extra part, sort of an hidden track, called "breathe reprise" which is starts right after Time.

    Lyrics:
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

    BREATHE REPRISE
    Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
    Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

    Meaning:
Ok. Now, to the most important part of the day, lets crack the meaning of this lyrics. To be honest, i choose this one as my first because they are good lyrics, but they're also easy to understand.
So, lets start with the beginning of course. If you listen to the song itself, it starts with the sound of a bunch of clocks ticking, it's important to note that in the middle of all those clocks you can clearly hear the sound of an heart beat, meaning that the heart, and our own life, is like a clock, just waiting to stop.
About the lyrics itself, the first verses talk about when we were kids, and we just wasted time wandering around, doing nothing, because we had so much time to live. But after a while we notice that we wasted too much, that we "missed the starting gun". After that we are presented with an race between us and the sun. We are trying to make the days longer, try to enjoy our days to the fullest, but now its to late, we are getting older, are getting "one day closer to death".
I think the last verse is kinda funny, because it show one example of that, the song ended and he didn't got to say everything he wanted, like in every persons lives, most of them can't do everything they want before it's time to get out of this world, and then, it's to late, "The time is gone",

After that we are presented with the second part of the song "Breathe", being the first part in the first track. This one show us clearly the life of the workers, as they reach home "cold and tired", and their moment of relaxation.
The bells mentioned in the song are clearly church bells, meaning that the song also refers to death, making it fit on "Time".
The last verse refers probably, to religion and their "Magic spells", showing that being faithful does not stop death and that, in the end, we're all the same.

Well, that was all for this week i hope you like it!
