His first solo album The Adversary was released in April 2006. All work was done by him with the exception of percussion, which was done by Asgeir Mickelson (Borknagar, Vintersorg etc.). It showcases his progressive influences as well as heavy metal, black metal and classical music. The album was recorded at Symphonique Studios in Norway and is to be released on his label Mnemosyne Productions, which was formed in 2003 with Ihriel. Same thing with his second solo album, AngL. Two years later his second solo album was released. He did two live shows in Norway, and then went on to the next album. With the release of After he completed a musical trilogy in 2010.
As well as being a talented musician, Tveitan is also a capable artist and once considered doing the artwork for a Thou Shalt Suffer album. He presently lives in Notodden, Norway with his wife and one dog, an Akita Inu. He also teaches music at the local school.

Recorded and produced at Telemark's Ivory Shoulder Studios, with additional tracking completed at Notodden's Juke Joint Studio and Seattle's Envisage Audio, 'Eremita' was mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth) at Fascination Street Studios in Orebo, Sweden.
Alongside Ihsahn, the album features performances from drummer Tobias Ornes Andersen (Leprous), saxophonist Jorgen Munkeby (Shining-Norway), guitarist Jeff Loomis (ex-Nevermore), and vocalists Devin Townsend, Einar Solberg (Leprous), and Heidi S. Tveitan (StarofAsh).
The album's packaging has been created by award-winning Spanish designer Ritxi Ostariz.

Adding to the previous, I only regret having discovered him and his music so late; I missed the Emperor era completely. (I wasn't properly into metal by 2001, and even around the time of the "reunion tour" my music taste was still limited to some rather embarrassing stuff.) Now I keep watching videos of the Wacken 2006 show and feeling sorry for myself for having missed something so awesome. ._.

I`ve watched all the new videos he added to youtube to promote after and I apperciate him putting the Emperor tab books out, since sometimes it is hard to find an accurate version of some of those tabs out there. His songs and guitar work are so complex, and inspiring.

Ihsahn is my favorite musician ever. Been a fan since about 1996 when I first discovered Emperor. I own all his work and I can't wait to see where he goes next now that he is done with his solo trilogy. A true artist who is never held back by popular opinion and pours all his heart and passion into his work. In addition to that he teaches music and puts up money for concerts for young bands. Truly worthy of admiration in all respects.
