It has been a great year for Americana/country/roots music. What are your favorites so far?

  • i definitely feel their newest album is one of the best of the year in this genre
    and certainly a lesser-known gem
it should fit in nicely with anyone who likes the other things you listed

  • So far, The Avetts, Miranda Lambert, Corb Lund and Justin Townes Earle are up there. Still need to hear the new ones from Charlie Robison and A.A. Bondy.

  • Agree with all of the above: Would also throw in Todd Snider's Excitement Plan:

  • Good one mikeorren. Snider needs to be on the list.

  • Oh, I almost forgot the honky-tonk record of the year - Grant Langston - Stand Up Man.

  • Haven't heard the new Kristofferson, Corb Lund or Tom Russell albums yet; definitely have to get them before I make my year-end list.

  • my faves are:
    Little Piece Of Dixie
    Roadhouse Sun
    Is Doin Stuff
Murdering Oscar (And Other Love Songs)
    1372 Overton Park

I tend to like stuff more on the rock end of things, so I'm not sure how well a few of these fit into americana.

  • aarongunnar, a little rock is good for ya. Nice list!

  • Been a busy week for me as far as acquiring new music. I've picked up several new albums that I'm going to have to fit into my Top Ten(or Twenty!) list:

    Corb Lund: Losin' Lately Gambler

Kris Kristofferson: Closer To The Bone

    Lyle Lovett: Natural Forces

Guy Clark: Some Days The Song Writes You

  • Lyle Lovett: Natural Forces is growing on me.

  • Twang, I finally got the new Deer Tick album and I'm liking it a lot.

  • RandyB1961 Cool. They are one of the indy alt.country influenced bands that I like. So many of them are steepd in irony for my taste.

  • I would add One Town Away but that is a great list at the top TwangNation!

Thanks peterszm86. I need to listen to that one again.

  • Yeah, that Wrinkle Neck Mules is given my already established top 20 picks a fit!

  • "Here We Go Again" by The Front Porch Country Band
