If you notice anything wrong with the True Current Stats tool, please post them in here. I'll try and keep this the place where I notify y'all of any fixes in response to bug reports.

I'm very happy the tool is back!
The problem is that it doesn't show japanese character correctly anymore, I get "???" instead, hope you can fix this. Thanks :)

  • I will look into why the updates aren't running regularly.

As for the characters...that is weird. Dunno what could be different between the servers to not allow UTF...will have a look.

    Will keep you posted.

  • gr8 thanx in advance

  • ... Working on the update interval. Will keep yo posted.

  • It's better for me now (in terms of update intervals), how bout eveyone else?

  • Correction. Still being lame.

  • it seems to be working right again, but i'm still not sure
    i'll check this out tomorrow

Updating as normal now thank-you. only thing I have noticed is the timezone is about 8 hours behind GMT.

  • The task is still a bit hit and miss...seems to be fine for some people but inconsistent for others. If it's still inconsistent for you, please let me know.

Have made some changes hopefully to fix the characters problem. If it starts working for you, please let me know.

Is anyone finding the pages are taking forever to load? It was inconsistently taking forever just to load the page today...

My overall charts on your site look a little odd after I listened to a 16-track ayumi hamasaki album last night before going to sleep. It seems to have doubled her playcount from 210 to 420, and my weekly one shows her having been played 200 times, though I only listened to her 16. Also Koda Kumi suddenly has 5 entries in my overall charts, two of them with her old "current playcount", 433, from before today's chart update and three of them with her new "current playcount" of 448. Could tinkering with the foreign characters have caused these issues somehow?

Other than that, everything seems fine now.

Edit: And it appears that ayumi hamasaki's playcount is still growing even though I'm not listening to her now. It's now showing 217 on my weekly chart.

  • Same problem here for KoЯn
it seems the script fails handling non-latin symbols

The foreign character are showing now, thank you!!!!

Have the same problems as others with some artists playcount being counted several time.

The website works except when I try to check users' TCS page.

  • Yeah, manda11 and mr_fiEcE, I think that's due to the fact that it's not matching the special symbols. I made a change yesterday and it looks like it's gonna work when you get your next overall stats update, if Uryuu's account is anything to go by. I'm a bit confused by it at the moment, but just give it a few days and hopefully it will right itself.

Sorry if these kind of issues put your stats off for this week...unfortunately those are the teething problems with having a new server. Hopefully we'll have it all ironed out over the next week.

Just a thought...if I were to package this tool up and release it for others to run on their own servers, who would actually make use of that? The reason is that I suspect that things are going slow and inconsistently on this server because of resources - a shared server can't handle such a user load. Previously on hostingcrate we pretty much had the server to ourselves. I think things would run a LOT smoother if the server had a lot less users - so would anyone consider running this for themselves, and maybe sharing their server with a handful of other users?

I think I've just discovered another problem as well, unfortuately. We used to be on a server in GMT, but now this server is on PST. Since Last.fm's week starts at 12pm Sunday GMT, I think my tool is getting confused about the cutover time...I'll look into that at some stage, but again I apologise to those affected by this for this week's stats.

    Thanks for your patience everyone.

  • ... about pages taking forever to load - i have this problem when trying to load any user's stats page; and the updates seem to be down again =(
OnDistantShores, could you please tell us about requirements to the server? standart apache/php/perl kit or something special? And can it be run on a local behind-NAT-machine with apache server?

  • I know! I don't have any good answer for why...I'll have to talk to blackdiggs.

I don't know much about the configuration you mentioned mr_fiErcE, but basically the only requirements are a web server supporting PHP, allowing cron jobs, and with access to a MySQL DB. If you have that, I should be able to to talk you through setting it up in no more than an hour ;-))

If my hosting company allows me to run the script then I would certainy install it myself. And maybe even have some of my friends use it. So please package it ;-)

" they said the classics never go out of style, but they do, they do "
  • Ok, will do. Once again, I'll need a bit of time to do that (with instructions, etc), but I'll keep you posted over the next week or two.

  • well, i ment all these, that's no problem to run such server
but i just realized i can't run the script on my computer, because of NAT my provider uses - i won't be able to adress images directly =(
i'll resume trying to find some solution, and will keep you in course.

  • So we've made an executive decision...and disabled 95% of the users! From now on, only those who join this group will be enabled. We just needed to cut down on the amount of users, so this seems like the only fair way to do it. Anyway, there's a new note on the main page about it.

So yeah, **hopefully** this will alleviate most of our problems now that there will be significantly less load on the server.

  • As of 9:25 EST the tracks appear to be updating hourly... "no jinxies".
