  • Your favourite West Yorkshire Albums

    There have been some lovely albums made in west Yorkshire this year. I mean, really really good - proper - albums (not a just a collection of various demos and bits and bobs recorded as and when - not that you can't do something worth having that way).

    Without checking my notes or reviews I can remember Limbo, Panto (Wild Beasts) Life Processes (¡Forward, Russia!) and Laura (Benjamin Wetherill) as outstanding.

    Can people remind me of all the others?

    I have to attend a Big Meeting for Vibrations Magazine when the Best of The Year will be argued over. Just remembered: Rupert The Sky by Bilge Pump too.

  • Pifco A Go Go? And the Glissando album as well. People have said nice things about Eureka Machines too.

  • Ah yes! Pifco and Glissando for sure are grand albums. I think Eureka Machines are a performance thing. I haven't heard the album yet, but I suspect I would like it more with a Dave Edmunds scale production working on it plus even more beef from contemporary sound wranglers. In my imagination they have a huge classic rock album there somewhere - my suspicion is that they haven't made it yet, despite some strong material. But we'll see! Early days.

  • Not an album, but D.I.L.E.M.M.A./Polar Swelling by Grammatics was well worth the 400 or so pence I paid for it. Also, this doesn't count, but The Heritage by Her Name is Calla is worth a mention.

  • The Heritage is indeed a lovely record. Are they technically not West Yorkshire? Was it Nottingham or Leicester, but moving to Leeds?

  • Leicester it is(/was), I never quite grasped the nature of the moving to Leeds thing, I think they are here now but weren't when the album was made.
