Description:
Dedicated to the Prophets of Country Doom.

Those Poor Bastards play miserable and primitive old-time gothic country music. Lonesome Wyatt (guitar, vocals) and The Minister (banjo, bass, etc) are both legally certified holiness preachers. If you're looking for slick, overproduced, commercial songs, you'd better cover your delicate little ears. Those Poor Bastards play it raw and they play it mean. Be a pal and support independent anti corporate country music.

Tribulation Recording Company proudly presents its first ever album-novel set! The book (sold separately) is entitled "The Terrible Tale of Edgar Switchblade," and tells the story of a religiously obsessed and mentally disturbed bounty hunter born with cloven hooves. Together with his faithful horse Old Red, they befriend and destroy werewolves, ghosts, prostitutes and other strange creatures.

The accompanying album, "Behold The Abyss," explores the themes of the novel and expands upon several key events. The instrumentation is sparse, broken and filled right up to the brim with misery and ugliness.

When combined, the book and album present a brutal and hopeless picture of humankind's lonely pursuit of spiritual and earthly desires.

Release date September 11, 2012.

http://www.blackgate.com/2013/08/08/an-interview-with-lonesome-wyatt-of-those-poor-bastards/ Wyatt describes the new TPB album a little bit in this interview. I'm excited!

Also i have not read the terrible tale of edward switchblade yet, but I think the album stands just fine on it's own. When I do read it, and I will, I imagine it will only add to it, not "one can not enjoy one without the other" bullshit.

Before Sept. 11, I remember thinking "They are the greatest band in the world, but there is no way they can keep it up, this must be the album they start to loose it." Happy to say I was completely wrong. After a few listens I think it is not quite up to The Plague or Gospel Haunted (my personal fav.) but will be remembered as a damn fine album and worthy of being counted among their best.

My Beautiful Knife, Phantom Pool, He of Cloven Hoof are definitely my least favorites. My Beautiful Knife has at least a great vocal melody.

Everything is Temporary, Your Faith Shall be Tested, Beautiful Knife, Phantom Pool, He of Cloven Hoof, Thee End, Robe of Scarlet Thread - the album is damn solid. So many fantastic tracks and it gets better with each listen.

Okay, perhaps my words were a little too harsh. The album gets better with every listen. A Robe of Scarlet Thread is the greatest, I claim.

Well.. the new album is a huge let down. There are only a couple good songs, the rest is so so. The whole thing sounds too much Heartsick + Gospel Haunted, lacks a sound of its own. The lyrics aren't as clever as in previous albums, music is overdone. It's a good album, but nothing marvelous.

I expect you folks to give feedback on the album as well as the book... And "A Lovely Coffin" is one of my favorites off Sabella as well! Along with "Shelter".

If the world was just, Lonesome Wyatt would already be a legend.

"Heartsick" is incredible! Got it in the mail today and haven't turned it off yet. Anyone else get theirs?

Oh wealth is death and greed is endless We poor folks gotta rise up and end this I'm talking guns, I'm talking knives I'm talking unforgivable crimes If we stay meek the end will come Our ghosts will burn up In the motherfucking sun ...I think "Forever Poor" is my new favorite Those Poor Bastards tune, period. Lonesome Wyatt really conjured up some demons with this one.

Lol, I went dyslexic and called it "This Is Hell?". Fail. Anywho, got mine Saturday. Forever Poor is the stand-out track to me, much like Nightmare World was on Abominations. And now I must wait 17 more hours to redeem my mp3 downloads...
