Madonna booed at indie music festival; J Lo & former Soviet Georgia...

    06 May 2006

WHILE it seems pop diva Madonna is welcome almost everywhere, she was roundly booed by the audience at the recent Coachella Valley Music Festival in California.

The 48-year-old performed at the famous Woodstock-like music event - which featured mostly indie rock acts like Tool, Massive Attack and Yeah Yeah Yeahs - where fans and artistes mingle.

But Madonna showed up late on stage, and performed only six songs.

An insider told Fox News: 'Unlike other acts, Madonna's crew printed special name tags for security and kept everyone away from her tent.'

Another source added: 'The private backstage passes ruined the communal feeling of the event.'

Madonna's anti-social behaviour is surprising, considering the effort she put in to join the festival's line-up.

She reportedly personally called the organiser, who had turned down previous offers from her team to play there, and pleaded with him till he relented.

J-Lo is no hero for Georgia

DON'T hold out for actress Jennifer Lopez to be a hero.

The country of Georgia, which is suffering from a crippling trade embargo and is locked in a war of words with neighbouring Russia, has reportedly tried to rope in the Latin diva to save its image.

According to The Guardian, the government offered her US$500,000 ($790,000) to celebrate Independence Day in Georgia's capital Tbilisi on 26 May.

The 37-year-old star was also asked to promote wine, one of Georgia's most economically important products, which has been badly affected by a politically-charged import ban imposed by Russia.

It seems, however, that Lopez was not interested in saving the tiny state and rejected the offer - much to President Mikhail Saakashvili's chagrin.

She also reportedly set unrealistic conditions for her appearance, including a large fee and overly expensive stage equipment.

    i know what you mean

i had a big laugh once when some music industry mogul-wannabe referred to Geffen Records as a 'small, independent label'.

i suppose it is all relative, ie, if you live within the belly of the beast, the perspective might be different than points elsewhere.

  • There's absolutly nothing "indie" about Madoona in the slightest. She's a capitalist, a business women.
    BTW.
    This was typed twice .
