New album!!!!

  • I havent listened to it yet,I am waiting for the actual album, but remember that there surely were Therion fans who were disappointed by the change after Theli.
Also, what the fuck is this story about being "commercial"?What does that mean anyway? If a band actually becomes successful, why is that bad? Because we cant say 'o,look,I am listening to BandX that is so good and people dont know them' and boost our self esteem?
Being in a band is a job among all else. You have to make money and if people buy your albums, its because they think they're good.Therion was almost over before Theli and Johnsson didnt think anyone would buy it,he just wanted to record it as it was the project he always wanted to make. But,surprise! It was a commercial success and Therion went on.

When you are next out of doors on a summer night, turn your head towards the zenith. Almost vertically above you will be shining the brightest star of the northern skies — Vega of the Lyre, twenty-six years away at the speed of light, near enough to the point of no return for us short-lived creatures. Past this blue-white beacon, fifty times as brilliant as our sun, we may send our minds and bodies, but never our hearts. For no man will ever turn homewards beyond Vega, to greet again those he knew and loved on Earth.
  • oh yeah?!xD Well.., you're "fucking" ignorant about what is being commercial. it is not about the success of the group, and NOT about that they are good or bad. They were like that - good, before that stupid project "Gothic Kabbalah" I'll not going to teach you, VampyreAngel, about the meaning of the phrase "Commercial Music".So, If you would like to know something about it, then watch SouthPark - 709 - Christian Hard Rock - there is a little info about that damn thing you don't understand. You can think like you want about this album, but don't link Old Therion and their dreams and purposes, and new one..

Ooh, and by the way ;))) I saw your Overall Top Artists, and guess, what commercial group I saw?
;DDD now I know why you like the Kabbalah

  • Talk about ignorance:
" I havent listened to it yet,
Read first. I just made a general comment on people losing their love for a band when it gets a wider fan base. I dont know how the album is,but even if there is a change towards this so vaguely mentioned commercialism(I have seen the S.Park episode and I doubt you can link it to Therion - after all,the lyrics must will still be Therionish i suppose), it doesnt necessarily make it a bad album. Did Pavarotti lose his voice or his value when he started singing non-opera songs?
Their dreams and purposes is basically C.Johnsson's.And I dont think you can know their current dreams and purposes.
When I do listen to it,even if I dont like it(rather unlikely), I want say it's because they became commercial.Unless its really that bad.But I doubt it.

P.S.What commercial group did you see?If you are stupidly referring to Nightwish(probably not),they are on your charts too. They are not commercial.
..oh,let me guess. The war of U2 against half the world. THEY ARE A GOOD BAND.

  • Anyway, the point I am trying to make is that you can call any successful album commercial when you think about it. Red hot chilli peppers?commercial. But also,J-Lo-commercial. Its not quite the same. Not to mention Christian Hard Rock-commercial. It does not equal bad.

When you are next out of doors on a summer night, turn your head towards the zenith. • So, you've misunderstood about being commercisl again.I'm not saying that Therion Is a commercial band.I'm saying that the ALBUM is commercial.Try to read and to understand.Well, If Tarja isn't commercial, then I live in state Alabao -_- It is in my tracks too, cause I'm not only one using my computer)) that's all.

well.. IncandeSSence is just going a little far.. calm down =) ok, lets make a new band together like old Therion =P But, you know noone can create a band like them again, dont you ;)

    @Luthien32 about "Gothic" word.
what i knew was "kabbalah" is a mystic hebrew tradition, or trend.. or whatever it is .. It is all belong to a belief like rendering and commenting Jewish Bible due to some rules, and then getting some names or some prophecies .. I dont know more details.. But, due to this defination, there can be no connection between "gothic" and "kabbalah" .. And this is why i said "just KABBALAH would be a great name" .. and this is why i said "Gothic" is nonsence and makes the album seem like they use it for commercial worries (even if they dont worry commercial side, or they do) it makes the name this way... But!.. Maybe in Dragon Rouge, they have another meaning for the Kabbalah which is connected with "gothic"

    and about the songs..
I didnt like it.. why ?? because i was waiting for the same style which began with Theli album..
If someone gave me this new album and if he didnt told me the name of the band, i would like it very much and would wonder who the band is.. But, when the name becomes THERION, everything is different.. I listen so many songs in other band's albums just like this new album has.. But i couldnt listen the songs like Therion was playing, in no other bands.. I've never found the same musical themes, which the albums between Theli-->Secret of the Runes has, in any other bands..

So, wont i listen Gothic Kabbalah ?? of course i will .. But not with those old albums.. This one will never be special as them.. I will listen very randomly and slightly with Iced Earth.. with Beseech.. with Ayreon.. with Stratovarius.. with Rhapsody.. with Blind Guardian.. maybe even with HIM, with Rasmus ..

THERION was a band who has such mysterious melodies just made me feel like "here comes the end of time, end of the universe.. here the black sun is rising" and stuff you know.. ..

whatever .. i wish my stupid english was ok and i could tell more detailed..

Well, I agree with this in a 100%, especially with the If someone gave me this new album and if he didnt told me the name of the band, i would like it very much and would wonder who the band is.. I was waiting for something as "The Secret of the Runes"

  • What about making new band? - Well..Lets do it! :DDD Why can't we make it? We can!;p by stealing and playing their songs in russian mayb :D~ ^____^

  • quote: "THERION was a band who has such mysterious melodies just made me feel like "here comes the end of time, end of the universe.. here the black sun is rising" and stuff you know.."

That's a food thought too)) And dunnworry about english stuff^^

  • Ok... now I am seriously worried

  • @IncadeSSence:
The only thing I am saying is that the word commercial is overused and you have yet to give me a clear definition, since I am so wrong. Albums may be commercial without that being the ultimate goal of their makers.

right:/ ..And they took some american cheap vocalist, making everything so POP&Commercial. They want to earn a lot of money on this album, 'cause it is generalpopular style it is built of!!Also I looked at the PRICE of one ticket from their concert..;)))) It is like a phone number. Well, earning money is great, but now their songs have NO SOUL..

Now,I say again I havent listened to the album, but I find it hard to believe that its Pop.Not until I listen it at least.
Anyway,I think your criticism on the band has been a little too hard, since from what you say, you just like this album less than the previous ones. After all,not all albums can be of the same quality. Not even by Therion.

    Peace.

Edit:damn,I needed to edit this 3 times.

  • hmm, so you want the clear definition? so, I'm telling you that I'm not an American or English person and usually I speak Russian. If you can understand this beautiful language, then I'll give you the term of "beng commercial" at 100 percent clearly understandable forYOU! It is not Pop, It has pop melodies like Lacuna Coil does.

I love the new album, they sound as good as ever to me.
I'll definitely be buying this one.

  • Yeouch. My girl just came back from Mexico and brought me two albums:
    1. Of Darkness...
    2. Gothic Kaballah

They are as different as black and white or a rainforest and desert. So far I don't like Gothic Kaballah at all. Doesn't give me the "metal" feeling worth shit. Perhaps it will yet grow on me... I shal listen to it a few more times then make a thread critique on it :P

The first disc of Gothic Kabbalah (promo) is softer than the older albums, but the disc Two is as good as the recent albums, i think.

In this release is a lack of extreme metal voices, in the way of some songs of Lemuria/Sirius B

  • Alrighty, I've heard Gothic Kaballah. It has some good songs. It's not as good as Lemuria/Sirius B. Truth be told though, I like "Of Darkness..." much better. I find the grungy guitar riffs, heavy style and non-annoying lyrics much more attractive than the overkill operatic "find the path of the nine-pointed star to reveal the path of gurufraghasth up the dragon Ancalagon's ass to lead you to self-realization" lyrics and things of that sort :P

  • I don't like the powermetal influences that have gotten into this new album.
That's probably because of that guy from Merciful Fate...talk about a ridiculous band...

Real Therion songs on the new album:
Son of the Staves of Time
    Three Treasures
    Alduna Revivia

    real crap song:
    Trul

    rest is so so

Overall, I get the feeling that the song are more simplistic.
Too bad...all bands have their good and bad moments I guess

    Your mind is clear!
  • The female vocalist is,in my opinion, this album's problem. Not that she's a bad singer, but she doesnt fit with Therion, she seems out of place.Other than that, the album is good, though certainly not the "best since Vovin" as the sticker claimed.
The other problem,or at least that's how I see it,is the fact that C.Johsson's part gets diminished. He stopped writing lyrics,he stopped singing and now he has even stopped writing the music! There are only 5 songs he is credited with the music and only one in which he is the sole composer. That was disappointing and I think it's one of the reasons this album seems different.
Overall,I like it,but it certainly could have been better.
P.S.1: the song Gothic Kabbalah sounds like Rhapsody with female vocals to me.
P.S.2: I want Piotr Warzeniuk back:(

  • This album isn't so Therionistic as the past albums. Very different. I like it though.

Therion evolved, and this album is the result of that. People are complaining that the change isn't what they wanted. But if you evolve with every album you create, eventually there will be albums that the fans don't like too much. The next album will be different again, so if you don't like this one, then wait for the next one, I guess...

I like the new album a lot. It's a new Therion, and I enjoy the fact that they experimented once more, because the result is absolutely great! Then again, can't argue about personal taste, can you?

Just do the band a favor, and don't start shouting "BOOOOH" when they play the new songs live. So-called "fans" did that a couple of days ago, which is a total lack of respect if you ask me.

At the show in Essen someone screamed "Play some old stuff! The new is shit!" during the breaks - I could have killed him. Like you said: If a band develops, people are complaining that it isn't what they've expected. But if a band releases something rather expected, people are complaining that it's boring and repetetive. It's so goddamn silly!

And my opinion about the album: It took me some time to get into it. Son of the Staves of Time, which is still my absolute favourite, was the first song I really liked - actually after listening to no more than the first 60 seconds of it, but the rest I found rather weird. Then after a while I got used to the new sound and now I love the whole album, even though it has some weak points, too.
