  • Ballboy - A Guide For The Daylight Hours
I really need more from these Scots.

Holy crap, that Raphael Saadiq album was really good. I hope that everyone took advantage of it.

They're raving about that all over the place - I'm downloading it now before it goes out of fashion.

I hadn't downloaded it (Saadiq)... but I am now!

Also, thanks for The Aliens link Ziggy, I managed to get hold of it yesterday so I'm going to give it a spin. The first song is great, I've listened to that one on their myspace many a time in the past few weeks!

  • (EDIT - Removed image because it was huge, but it was Mercury Rev's new album, Snowflake Midnight)

    And it's really, really good...

Actually, it's so good I'll find a link for y'all!

Holy shit the end of Sense on Fire.

I'm still only halfway through my first listen... but fuck it. This > Deserter's Songs.

    AOTY.

    Best album of all time.

  • Thread needs more links from other people btw....

    I forgot my physics book.
  • Geez, sorry ziggy.

  • I don't know what any of those are. But I'm downloading them. Good man Eagle.

    I forgot my physics book.
  • It's the next big thing! Sorta like Steely Dan on speed [/ vile hyperbole]

Passion Pit - Chunk Of Change EP
    Sleepyhead.Mp3

  • M.I.A. - Kala

    This album is addictive.

  • Holy shit. Guess I need to start downloading. Thanks, guys.

I'll share something with you guys later, I promise.

  • Maybe I am being a little overly cautious, but should we be sharing albums on our public message board? I don't want to see posters removed or this group shut down for piracy. Maybe, just maybe, we should make our boards private?

Would that stop mods from being able to see the boards, though?

Very good point. Will look into this.

  • I doubt the Mods would be a problem. If the RIAA finds us though and sends a legal complaint to last.fm, that could create a good amount of problems.

  • We should privatize the boards anyway—our lofty elitist sayings are not worthy of the eyes of the hoi polloi.

  • Can we not just do it to certain threads? I think it was your discussions that made me want to join in the first place.

  • I've yet to download or upload anything for that very reason. Good point about loosing the transparency, though. If there is a way to select what threads get made private, I think it's a no-brainer. Let's do it. If the threads can't be separated, I think we need a vote from everyone...

    One person's opinion.

  • Yeah, I lurked here reading before I joined. And I used to download all the albums that you guys used to post links for! That was 2 years or so ago now though...

    I forgot my physics book.
  • When I joined, I was surprised that voting was open. Whoever the reigning dignitary was at that time patiently explained that being openly elitist was part of the cache (imagine an accent grave over that last e). Also, yes, it is much harder to find a group that is private--witness the fine group BEREP (several of us present & past TMEs are alos in "This Group Only Exists To Have The Best Eclectic Radio Ever - Period" but because the group is private (we wanted to keep voting a private affair because we go into fairly deep analysis of the charts using mathematical models), activity is very low in terms of applicants and interest. For a long time, responses to threads did not show up on Reply Tracker. Many members complained that this suppressed their interest in the group. I vote to keep the conversations and threads open.

Because, the posting of DL's on forums public OR private is something that the Mods have swung large hammers upon, in fact, we ran afoul of that once before here. Very much frowned upon, and likely escaping their attention right now b/c the new version of Last gives them enough to worry about.

Ways around that are simple, and require nothing more than a gmail account + password. I recommend that as the DL solution. Posting links here will get the Hammer of Thor on our heads.

  • Wow, bit of scaremongering here :) I always hide 'em discreetly in an image when I post, uploading an album right this moment in fact.

And posting gmail accounts isn't entirely necessary. The leader of a mixtape sharing group was officially told my an admin/mod that they could be sent by PM [as opposed to snail mail] since what happens in private messages stays private.

I'm not trying to scaremonger, n3cro. You're on my user's list on slsk for example. But I have been threatened with banishment in the past for participating in a forum that posted links. I hadn't posted any, but we were all guilty by association, and it was a private thread. I'm just saying that a privat thread doesn't solve the problem.

The pm solution is another way--the only problem is that it is largely one-to-one instead of one-to-many, but then so is the gmail solution.

So, n3cro's solution would work like this, if I understand. Whoever has the share, post the img file as usual, and then those who are interested can pm the poster and get the share link in return, am I correct? Works for me.

Oh, I never thought of that

Actually, I was talking about [ url = link.com][ img]IMAGELINK.jpg[ /img][/ url] so you get a clicky image like:

(otomo yoshihide's new jazz enemble - dreams)

But what you said also sounds okay.

I think looking for the download yourself would be much more expedient than going to the trouble of pm-ing for it. Plus, just cos the link seems hidden behind the image doesn't mean the mods can't read the BBCode that put it there. Not that I absolutely know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, the "hiding in the clouds" only works for the graphic rendering. If you're going through looking for hidden links (as an RIAA might do), then that's not gonna fool anyone. So you DO know what you are talking about.

I think inertia is the best argument against your approach, Will. If I see an album that looks interesting on, say, this thread, and n3cro or whoever says "PM me" then it's just a clidck on his icon & I drop a line. Otherwise, I got to go outside Last.fm (and it's scary outside) and then search, and then, yadda yadda yadda. For me, much easier to not battle inertia and clidk on n3cro's avatar & make him send me the link.
