When will my friends realize that I am the one of the last people they should go to for dating advice/sympathy?
(although I may well be the last resort in the conversation I'm having right now. I didn't even know my friend was dating the guy she's upset over. Which is the other problem, that I wouldn't mind being asked for advice/sympathy so much if they kept me abreast of their situations to begin with and didn't just leave me to pretend I have any idea what was going on. I've determined that the sad face emoticon exists for situations where you're clueless but don't want to piss off your friend by revealing that.)

I'm hopelessly smitten with a girl that lives three hours from me and is dating someone else, but their relationship is on the skids anyway and I think she's interested in me also... maybe. This could also go in the 'Things That Bother Us' thread.

I agree with Tilaton. I'm getting close to 59 trips around the sun & a few years ago I thought that excessive sex was a long-ago experience & that we were gonna settle in to a once or twice a month type thing until we both lost interest & would sit by the fireplace (which we don't have btw) reading poetry & drinking brandy.

About a year ago now, Mrs. Bubba wound up at the doctor b/c of some unusual hormal stuff that coincided with our spring-break trip to LA. The diagnosis was uterine cancer, which the best doctors in the world at U-M took care of in a thrice and through the whole process she got a new gyno who helped her balance her massive estrogen imbalance (which led to the Big C in their opinion).

I know that I am already creeping out most of the free world, but the outcome has been some of the best mind-blowing sex. We've both looked at each other & said "where were you 20 years ago?" Daily. Multiples. Excessive sex is far, far preferable to celibacy, unless of course you ain't getting any, in which case I'm sure you prefer celibacy.

Over the 38 years we've been together, we've gone from having tastes pretty much in sync to having to accommodate each other's listening habits.

Example 1: It took a concerted effort from me & my sons to get my wife from hating anything rap/hip hop. I've been an erotomaniac a large part of my life, and it has hardly ever lead to "suffering". Obviously - and unfortunately so - some rules of society have to be followed to avoid any excess drama, but it's a small price to pay.

Well I said that investing sentiment and energy on others will lead to suffering, not necessarily sexual activity. I understand what you're getting at though. All trolling aside I know that sex (and relationships) can be healthy and an all around good thing for people but when I look at the people in my life and what they do to have sex it just doesn't seem to be worth it.

It seems like the contemporary attitude is that one should have sex all the time at any cost and without it one is somehow broken or not actually living or some other bullshit. When I advocate celibacy for laughs, I'm really just saying keep it under control and realize there are other important things in life.
