• Elitism & Love

Are you guys able to date people who have sub-par music taste? Is it something you even take into consideration when dating people? Can love last with a non-elitist?

yada, yada, yada. Let's talk about elitism and relationships.

  • Except me - I've been with the same woman for 12 years - married for 8 of those and we've got 2 kids.

    She's not interested in music.

  • yea...everyone has their differences and nobody can have as great a musical taste as your own self.

not everyone appreciates music as much as me, so if they don't appreciate it, it's just means more for me to enjoy.

they just make up for their lack of music taste in other ways.

    HELLO!

  • I don't care for any of the music the girl I'm interested in now listens to

  • My girlfriend used to listen to shit music. But just hanging around me and my music seemed to have converted her. Her favourite bands now are the Mountain Goats and Jens Lekman. As oppose to My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy. She's even getting into elitist bands that I don't particularly like now. Like Broken Social Scene.

    I forgot my physics book.

I could never have a relationship with someone who's not interested in music. The mere thought that such people exist makes me want to cry.

I could also never shack up with a Rush fan. Sorry, but just...no. (I won't mention any musical atrocities found on modern top 40 radio, as I consider males who like that crap to be completely off my radar.)

My ex started off not liking music at all, but lately he's become a big My Chemical Romance fan. I have no idea where that came from, especially since his current girlfriend isn't really into them. But then again, he's also a Republican, which is also on my no-no list.

  • i thought that bit about being pretentious in the description was in joking

My girlfriend has what I consider to be terrible music taste, but we've been dating for years and I look past it. I just make snide remarks about her taste a lot. Don't get me wrong, I would love it if I could convert her, but it's not happening and I have accepted it.

I could possibly handle a mild conservative if he was more economic than socially conservative, and if he was open to new ideas. Anything beyond that—no. Sorry, I'm not into James Carville/Mary Matalin-type relationships. I need someone who shares most if not all of my major values.

    (Oh, and it's Cat, please.)

Don't lie... you know you have a secret crush on Fred Durst!

  • My roommate had a drunken rant at me the other night because I have been.. I don't even know what the verbage would be... talking to? a republican. I've changed and am throwing my values out the window... something or other.

But he's cute and likes tv on the radio.
