I have a FAVORITE movie. I'll bet that you have one too. Tell us about it.

  • a hard day's night.first, because of the beatles. i am a huge fan.my first record(vinyl 45 single) was let it be.also, because it is the perfect idealized way a rock band should exist.there is no problem with drugs, egos, money matters and all the other " real world" bullshit that goes on.it's pure.the comedy is truly great as well.no, they were not the marx brothers.they wer something new, fresh and exciting.i was born in 1963 so i wasn't exactly around when they hit but i get a great deal of enjoyment from this movie.this si the reason i learned to play guitar and am now taling piano lessons.

  • O Brother, Where Art Thou?

I’ve got several favorite bands; don’t ask me to narrow it down to one. I definitely don’t have a favorite song. If I had to name one, I’d probably reply that the last song I listened to was my favorite one. I do have a favorite movie though.

I prefer to watch most movies only once. If I like a movie, I may watch it a year or two later. When it comes to the Coen brothers movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, I could watch it several times per year. Why? Because it’s my favorite!

The Coen brothers have made some great movies; Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, and more. I like them all. I like ‘O Brother’ the best because every frame is fascinating. From the opening scene, with the hypnotic rhythm of a chain gang breaking rocks to the last scene with the old man on the railroad pump car, this movie is pure joy. You just have to watch it, probably twice, for it to hook you.

O Brother has more memorable lines than any movie I know:
    “Do…not…seek…the…treasure!”
    “My hair!”
“Damn, we’re in a tight spot!”
    “Gopher?”
    “I seen ‘em first!”
    “He’s a suiter.”
“Them sirens done loved him up and turned him into a…horny-toad!”
“I gotta get me the family farm back before I start thinkin’ about that.”
    ”Hand me that chopper!”
    “I’m a Dapper Dan man!”

And that just scratches the surface.

Here’s Amazon’s summary of the movie:

O Brother, Where Art Thou? (Amazon page)
Disenchanted with the daily drudge of crushing rocks on a prison farm in Mississippi, the dapper, silver-tongued Ulysses Everett McGill (George Clooney, THE PERFECT STORM) busts loose. Except he's still shackled to his own chain-mates from the chain gang -- bad-tempered Pete (John Turturro, SUMMER OF SAM), and sweet, dimwitted Delmar (Tim Blake Nelson, HAMLET). With nothing to lose and buried loot to regain -- before it's lost forever in a flood -- the three embark on the adventure of a lifetime in this hilarious offbeat road picture. Populated with strange characters, including a blind prophet, sexy sirens, and a one-eyed Bible salesman (John Goodman, COYOTE UGLY), it's an odyssey filled with chases, close calls, near misses, and betrayal that will leave you laughing at every outrageous and surprising twist and turn.

    Here are some clips:

“In The Big Rock Candy Mountains” (opening credits, great song)

“Any of you boys smithies?” (blacksmiths)

    Song of the Sirens

Chris Thomas King sings the blues (misc. clips)

    "He's a suiter"

Sorry for the ultra-long post. Hope you enjoyed the clips.

  • Matrix: Perfection

There's no film like Matrix. It broke up with the previous films, and create a new generation. Its special effects are incredible, and the script makes me fall in love with that movie. PERFECT

Sorry, I don't know why I can't post the video correctly. It's the final battle between Neo and Smith.

    Johnny Walker
  • hmm i don't have a favourite movie it's almost like trying to get you to squeeze a favourite song out of me, but i will say that the lord of the rings has been the only movie in the last decade to really blow my mind away. i've seen it too many times so i'm a little over it but i do consider it one of my favourites. alot of the greatest classic movies i see are on dvd, never in the actual theatres, so seeing lotr would be my best movie experience.

i remember every summer being in a freakin long queue just to watch the two towers and that line stretched riiight outside the shopping centre. there were just too many people anticipating the movie but it was great, the more the merrier!!! also with the final movie of the trilogy, we came in at 9 am waiting for the theatres to open so we could run and jump in first line but there were heaps of people already, and it sounds lame now but when the film ended there was a huge applause in the audience lol. i'll never forget that.

  • The Good, The Bad and The Ugly...masterpiece of Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood. Brilliant and sometimes very funny dialogues, interesting plot and good actors at all.

Dirty Harry - classic movie...Do you feel lucky, punk?:)

Sleuth (1972) - Lord Olivier & Michael Caine play the most dangerous game - the game with death!

    Do you feel lucky?
  • It's hard to choose only a couple or three, but you can check the whole list on my profile :)

The Seven Samurai (1954): A classic by Akira Kurosawa. Great plot and Toshiro Mifune is outstanding here. Hollywood remaked it in "The Magnificent Seven"
The Godfather (1972): Nothing more to add :)
Blade Runner (1982): Best science fiction film, in my opinion, and the best in Ridley Scott's filmography. Not everybody likes it, but it has a great philosophical background. I want to highlight Rudger Hauer (in the actors chapter) and Vangelis' soundtrack. Both are fantastic, specially at the end scene.

  • i liked blade runner for it's retro 80's feel, but that was it? i didn't understand the movie? huh?

condemnation without investigation is the height of IGNORANCE

  • @jcjohnson63: "The final cut" (the newest version that you say) is the best, in my opinion. Appart from the ending (I prefer the new), there aren't any off-screen voice now and the special effects takes also have been retouched.

  • thanks. gotta check it out. :)

If I ever die of a heart attack, I hope it will be from playing my stereo too loud.
  • it's funny how here in america we take alot for granted. the rest of the world makes movies. and we may not be familiar with them. and i'm guilty of this as much as anyone.it's sad.

love is all you need! is there anybody alive out there?
  • It's sad but that's a reality - there is so many movies and so little time to see it all...

If I ever die of a heart attack, I hope it will be from playing my stereo too loud.
  • The Wild Bunch (Sam Peckhinpah);
    Memento (Christopher Nolan);
Blade Runner (Ridley Scott - was on some heavy shit while he was directing this movie, he steel claims that Harrison Ford's character (Rick Deckard) was clearly portraited as an android (but it's debatable), and also the movie had very little references to the book, the book is much more perplexing)
    Unforgiven (Clint Eastwood)
    any movie by Stanley Kubrick
and so much more, this was just something that popped up at this moment.
