Description:
Group for The Last.fm Mass Tagger App http://sourceforge.net/projects/lastfmmasstag/

A java based app for quick multi tagging. Currently you can tag multiple items from similar artist, top tracks and top albums lists and there's a free form tagger which takes in a list of artists separated by newlines.

It should hopefully work on multiple Operating systems however I've developed and tested it on windows so that's the platform I'd most recommend using it on. I have tested it on ubuntu linux as well and with the execption of a few small GUI issues everything works. Results may vary elsewhere.

Remember with great tagging power comes great responsibility, I made this so that people can create tag collections quickly and easily not for spamming.

Feedback would be much appreciated.

How to Run:

Ensure you have an up to date Java Runtime Environment (JRE 6 Update 18 at time of writing) and then extract the archive to a folder and run LastFMmassTagger.jar. In Windows this should be just a case of double clicking the file or "java -jar LastFMmassTagger.jar" from the command prompt/ terminal

@headey: you have to extract the files from the zip archive first. To do that on Windows XP you can highlight the zip file and choose "Extract to..." either from its context menu (right-click) or from the folder "File" menu. Then you will be asked where the single files in the archive should be stored, so you should choose a folder (e.g. c:\program files\Lastfm\ or create a new one. The extraction process will create a new subfolder named as the zip archive with all single files in it. If you click on the *.jar file, the application should appear and also call a Last.fm page in your browser at the same time (so you have to be online) asking for permission to use your Last.fm account data.

Just thinking, I guess people don't come here too often so if anyone has help maybe they could post it here but give me a shout too. Cheers.

Has anyone written a 'Dummies Guide To..."? I'm feeling very thick. I think I've seen Java mentioned somewhere on my computer so I guess I've got it... but I'm lost at "extract the archive to a folder and run LastFMmassTagger.jar." ~ I've got "lastfmMasstag0.013.zip" in my download folder & when I open that I've got folders .. & lib & files LastFMMassTagger / bindingslicense / Mass Tagger / README (I read it & it told me to come here for help). If in doubt, at this sort of point, I double click on things. The .jar file gave me 'Could not find the main class: taglast.TagLastApp. Program will exit. The .bat file gave me a brief glimpse of what looked like a small black DOS(?) page. ~~~~~~~ Am I doing OK so far? What do I click next?

Haven't had time to update this lately, may get around to it eventually. Anyway the zip for the most recent version(v13) now includes the source with the app if anyone wants to play with it. Apologies in advance for my messy code :P

fun2program8 is correct, it won't launch the authentication for me using Ubuntu 11.10. I tried to fix this, but couldn't find the source on your Sourceforge. Could you release the source or fix this? Preferably both. :)

Soon your application will not work even in Ubuntu. You need to update it to use xdg-open, and then the part of your app that launches a web browser will work in any Linux desktop environment, not just GNOME v2: http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/distro-pkg-dev/2011-April/013376.html

Is there anyway for it to detect the metadata in my grouping field and submit that automatically? My local tags are pristine, and I would like to be able to just click 'tag data from grouping field' or something like that. It's a really useful program, but something like that would make me actually use last.fm tags and not just local ones.

I had this program up and running on my external hard drive. It is no longer usable. When I tried to reinstall on my hard drive, the .jar file is not showing up in the hard drive. I have searched and search my Laptop, there is nothing. Can someone please verify if the download is missing the file. When I extract nothing is there.

On 2nd thoughts, it's only taken ten minutes to do it manually --- I'll always plump for the low-tech solution; all this API stuff brings on my sick headaches ;)

Having tagged a load of tracks by mistake (in tag rescue project) are there any tools that can be used to remove recently added tracks en masse?
