Still wondering what's with the Friedberger blood and still searching for music that is as trippy, amazing, baffling and flabbergastingly stunning as The Fiery Furnaces?
Join me in my quest.

No really.
They puzzle me.

I hear a lot of Zappa. [2] lots of Zappa mostly on Widow City, EP and Blueberry Boat! also lots of other prog stuff such as ELP on certain tracks like "Blueberry Boat" which has a piano crescendo similar to a bit of "The Barbarian"...

Anyone else think we should add Talking Heads to the list? Perhaps Mansun, too (although mostly on lyrics).

Glad to see the group is still (relatively) alive! Let's stay classy.

Nevers is doing my head in. It's been lying dormant for a few months but now it's on a loop in my head about 22 hours a day.

I just added Marnie Stern to the connections. Her songs are baffling. http://www.myspace.com/marniestern1

(I can hardly imagine) that people who are not familiar with the siblings would like the work.

I bought Widow City a few days ago and although I'm disappointed in some way (after having read the reviews) I can't stop listening to it! It's odd. But their other work had the same effect on me. The riff-thing is true, yet I think WW counts less '!?!'-moments as for instance Blueberry Boat. Many ideas would have been thrown away if it had been for earlier work, I think. And I can hardly imagine

I saw them in London the other day, and suddenly, Widow City made sense. It's brilliant. And so full of throw away riffs that woudl keep any other band in ideas for years.

I still think Gallowsbird's Bark is their best album. I'm not in love with Widow City as much as the others, but it's still good.

Blonde Redhead almost belong to the same class of really interesting, innovative groups, but not quite as... genious. But still, worth a try.

Wow wow wow! Laurie Anderson !! She reminds me of Eleanor somehow, though she's even more arty.

I added some music connections, but it's just a starter. (some good ones, timutsler)

Not in a sounds like way, but try Brian Eno, Kate Bush, The Fall, and maybe Ludus, James Chance, Suicide.
