wwjimd The argument over "elitist vs non-elitist" seems ridicules to me. Who cares. I'm better than you because i listen to obscure music. I'm better than you because I listen to mainstream music. Pshaw! I like music. I like diversity. Groups like this help me dig for that music I haven't heard yet...and that is what is important to me.

Vetraulich That's because top artists are based on the most artists that people have in common. So even if the individual top arists here are ones most people don't know exist, the overall ones are those that these people share in common, which tend to be more popular ones.

boutboulman The fact that you are considering Daft Punk to be disqualifying is good, it means that they're awesome music is being heard. I'll never be able to join this group cos my top artist holds 12% of scrobbles, but apart from that (lol) I don't have any of this mainstream stuff in my top ten.. I'm wary of something *too* mainstream. But I can't wait to listen to the group radio.

henbenny thanks for the invitation - maybe I make my mind up.. but the rules here so far don't fit with my less predictable choice of music. I don't condam mainstream (whatever belongs to), it may be a nice contrast regarding to musical avantgarde.

theoretically you're right, but I think the combination of the two main conditions tends to produce people with non-mainstream taste. ie people who tend to listen to boybands and pop, don't generally have broad taste in music, they usually have their top 10 or 20 favourite artists and listen to them in high rotation.

Caneles I satisfy the 3 conditions, but don't agree totally with the measurement. Mainstraim is here defined by average scrobbled artists of Last-FM users who have a strong preference for indie music. Suppose I would listen to a huge variety of Boygroups and pop music. Theoretically I could fulfill the requirements of the three rules, but you wouldn't exactely call me non-mainstraim right?

bullfroggreen I will work on qualifying. The only disqualifying artist I have in my Top 50 is Radiohead, & that's at # 37. The only thing is, my Top Artist is the Boo Radleys, and they do make up more than 1% of my Total plays. I do think if you guys looked at my charts, you will be impressed though. Anyways, take care, and maybe I'll be able to join in the near future.
