Description:
A group for anyone interested in the music scene and bands of Tamworth UK.

If you are interested in the bands from Tamworth, UK, or the music scene in and around the town, this group is for you.

NEWS – last update: 04-Jul-2013 @ 14:00

NEW! • It has been two whole years since the last update to this group page, but finally there's something worth telling you about – the return of the Tamworth Rock Festival!

Yes, it returns on Saturday 17th August 2013, running from around noon until 10pm, featuring a range of local bands both young and old. Local rock Gods Wolfsbane are set to headline, just as they did in the good old days of the late 1980s. Also surviving (just) from that era are chemikill, with other prominent slots going to current darlings of the scene Pressure Kids and the wild card of Tamworth's Battle of the Bands winners.

So with things looking up a little, there should be a few more updates to follow. Stay tuned!

UPDATED • The 2013 Tamworth Battle of the Bands – results so far.

Rock fest back ... At last. Apart from Wolfsbane it's a pretty uninspiring line up though, but it's a start.

2 bands didn't turn up for the Battle of the Bands heat ... Those that did were entertaining though.

Hey Jase. Just to let you know The Variables are still very much active. We've spent the past four months creating something special for the local music scene... A recording studio. It's now live and open to the public. All the details can be found here: http://www.flux-studios.co.uk/ Any publicity you can help us with would be great. We're also going to be using the studio this week to record a single from our album which is a work in progress over the next few months ^_^

A new year, but still the same old lack of info from the local bands. Apart from a few gigs from The Owsla, Last Gasp and At the Zoo there doesn't seem to be much on the horizon. Expect a few updates here early in January and then I'll review the future of this group.

Placid groove were meant to be in heat 2 but dropped out of that to be moved to heat 3 but dropped out of that too, Aethereal dropped out too, so did Ennui, that makes 3. I was going to attend and I came back early from London to do so, but got a message that the aforementioned bands had all dropped out, so thought a fiver was not worth spending, simple.

erm, actually only one band didn't bother turning up (placid groove),Trommelmaschine sr-88 (me) was also a late replacement getting in touch with jock the same day as second time round. all heats so far have had 4 bands which is generally your usual amount for an assembly rooms gig, so value for money shouldn't really come into it. also, as you didn't attend last night can you really comment on if it was worth it from an audience point of view? lets burn barney were worth the entrance fee alone. their set was rather excellent. anyway, next week will hopefully be a full lineup, and even if it isn't driven like the snow are playing so come along anyway and stop whining!

Tamworth Battle of the Bands is now a joke ... More bands dropped out, and bands that had dropped out of previous heats to play the latest one, dropped out again, the organisers had to beg for replacements at the last minute, and they got one, so what was meant to be a 5 band night ended up as a 4, luckily not a 3 band heat ... Either the organisers have to start charging the bands £50 in advance to play, or start giving ticket holders their money back ............. As for the music, Let's Burn Barney won, Trommel Machine were runners up, and Second Time Round saved the organisers ass.

Rapidly running out of bands ... Heat 3 now is ... 8pm - Placid Groove. 8.30pm - Second Time Round. 9pm - Trommelmachine. 9.30pm - Lets Burn Barney. 10pm - Rote Giester. instead of ... Aethereal, Ennui, Placid Groove, Lets Burn Barney and Rote Geister ... Placid Groove were meant to be in heat 2 along with Arcane Rage. What's that now, 4 out, 2 switched and a name change =D

I wish the bands that pull out would give a reason, even if it's just 'the drummer's on holiday that day', but when they pull out without a word I lose all respect for them, and I can't be bothered to watch them if they play anywhere else, because quite frankly you don't know if they're going to turn up there either. But in typical fashion they'll form a new band in 6 months time and it'll start all over again, but hey, I expect 1 or 2 more to get cold feet before it's all over =D

I'm seriously thinking of updating all of the heat line-ups with "your guess is as good as anyone's..." with all the late changes. It doesn't do much for encouraging people to attend either.

Well that's my maths for you . The Hot Rockets were a 4 piece (lately), but 2 members left, so that's 50% out, but only 1 new member joined, so is that 33.3 % new? =D Anyway, Ennui have pulled out of heat 3, they're dropping like flys this year, so far that's 3 pulled out and 1 name change =)

I thought there were 3 members in Hot Rockets? Surely a 50% line up change would involve a hack saw and a lot of towels?

The Hot Rockets changed their name to Ex-Presidents after a 50% line up change, but still won, Show Stoppa was the other band that went through.
