One of my favourite synthpop bands around at the moment is another norwegian band (same town as APB and echo image), Sweep. They combine some modern and 80s synthpop elements nicely

    some samples are on http://www.sweep.nu

  • everyone loves genre entendres!

so lately i can't get enough of the faint's "danse macabre" and prodigy's latest album "always outnumbered never outgunned"....these 2 albums have really refreshed me especially for the 3 am writing-overdo-papers-charging-around-like-a-speedfreak, which is not something i usually find myself enjoying.

can you all explain what precisely makes you call something synthpop vs. electro? as a long time fan of electronic music, i find the labels sometimes elude me---the subtleties and i often end up feeling lost and somewhat arbitrary in the murky fog of genres.

Please be aware that the rest of the site is pretty damn empty at the moment as we're still migrating/writing the content :)

  • I have to say I almost fell into paroxysms when I got to see Assemblage 23 live...

And no matter how cheesy they are, I can't help but love Funker Vogt (who I've also seen) and Wolfsheim

I'm huge fan of Depeche Mode and Fad Gadget/Frank Tovey (hence my nickname). Of relatively "new groups", I'd pick out Ladytron, Iris, Wolfsheim, Soviet, Mesh.

    Elegant Machinery

  • Hmmm..well its gotta be Gary Numan/ Tubeway Army..he may be more industrial now, but back in his glory days he was immaculate and never better IMO..

I am a human being who has had intercourse with a machine. I am a machman.
  • I like Duran Duran and A-ha very much though I always thought they were more 'New Wave' then real synthpop :)

Further I dig VNV nation, Air, Flock of Seagulls and OMD.

Nrrr... the forum's kinda dead. :-(

Anyways. My favorite band, period, is Skinny Puppy. My favorite in the world of synthpop/futurepop/EBM is Covenant. They are still one of my all-time favorite artists, and were my #1 for much of the 90's. :-)

New Order, hands down. In fact they're my favorite band of any music style.

    VNV Nation uncontested.

Honourable mentions of course to New Order, Depeche Mode and Covenant, but for consistently great music VNV Nation take the crown IMO.
