    The Trashmen – Surfin' Bird
The Lively Ones – Surf Rider
The Beach Boys – Good Vibrations
The Shadows – Man of Mystery
    The Surfaris – Wipe Out

  • but... Surfin' Bird isn't instrumental!

Dick Dale - Misirlou (although Bobby Fuller's version is about a thousand times better, this is the one that got me into instrumental surf to begin with..)
The Lively Ones - Surf Rider
    The Surfaris - Wipe Out
Dave Myers and The Surftones - Church Key
The Ventures - Walk Don't Run

  • The Belairs - Mr.Moto (in my opinion surf began with this one, some month earlier than Dale's Misirlou ;-)
    The Belairs - Squad Car
Dick Dale and His Del-Tones - The Wedge
    The Chantays – Pipeline
    Pharos - Pintor

But it's difficult to choose only 5 ;-)

Re: [Surf Music] Best Instrumental Surf Classics of All Time???

aw my favorites aren't even on there

    1. The Original Surfaris - Bombora
    2. Dick Dale - Misirlou
    3. The Spotnicks - Rocket Man (OK, not exactly surf, I'll revise if I need to)
    4. The Sentinals - Big Surf
    5. The Centurians - Intoxica

and if Spotnicks don't count I'll take Surfin' Bird, though that's not especially instrumental...

    1. Dick Dale and His Del-Tones – Misirlou
    2. The Trashmen – Surfin' Bird
    3. The Surfaris – Wipe Out
    4. Link Wray – Rumble
    5. The Ventures – Walk, Don't Run

  • surfin' bird is hardly instrumental...

  • Fundamentally you are right about that, nevertheless I think it fits in the list. It is not difficult to compare this track to all the other instrumentals as opposed to for instance Beach Boys or Jan & Dean tracks which I would personally consider a different genre.

Anyone elses opinion about this is more than welcome...
    Should Surfin' Bird be disqualified??

  • Surfin' Bird is on my very short ban list, but that's just me. ;)

  • The Marketts – Out of Limits
    The Sentinals – The Pipe
    The Impacts – Church Key
    The Atlantics – Bombora
    The Mustangs – Drums

  • i didnt mean it should, its one of the coolest in the list actually ;) keep it!
