Jako że jestem tu od marca, a to prawie rok (i w tym wypadku nie robi to aż tak wielkiej różnicy) przedstawiam 10 ulubionych piosenek z krótkim objaśnieniem.

    1. Jolene (118)
Pewnego dnia na youtube przesłuchiwałam różne piosenki Dolly i natrafiłam na tę. Miłość od pierwszego odtworzenia.
    2. Somewhere a Clock Is Ticking (88)
Grey's Anatomy: Chirurdzy. Odcinek 17 seconds, nagle leci ta piosenka. I kolejne olśnienie. Potrafię słuchać jej nieustannie po 10, 20 razy.
    3. Not Ready To Make Nice (87)
Grammy 2007. Usłyszałam tę piosenkę w Trójce, a potem w filmie Shut Up & Sing. Poruszyła mnie ich historia, a piosenka zaczarowała.
    4. Sally's Song (82)
Obejrzałam The Nightmare before Christmas, a potem znalazłam wersję Amy Lee. Uwielbiam jej głos w Evanescence, a w tej piosence jest chyba jeszcze lepszy.
    5. Summer Rain (80) polecił mi Hayley, więc skorzystałam. Odnalazłam kilka piosenek i tak to się .zaczęło.
    6. Prayer (77)
    7. Untouched (65)
I znowu youtube.
    9. Na dłoni (61)
To po prostu Anna Maria i kocham każdą jej piosenkę, ale ta szczególnie przypadła mi do gustu. Jest taka... cudowna.
    10. Rain (58)
Kolejna serialowa historia, tym razem z Kości (1x17 - The Skull in the Desert). Po obejrzeniu odcinka cały czas chodziła za mną melodia, aż w końcu zaczęłam słuchać piosenki. Można by rzec, że na okrągło.

    Snow Patrol
Monday, 17th of September, 2007 – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne.

(Support: Silversun Pickups & Iain Archer)

Setlist: (Not in order- will be in order soon)
    Hands Open
It's Beginning To Get To Me
    Headlights On Dark Roads
    Signal Fire
    Grazed Knees
    How To Be Dead
    Tiny Little Fractures
    Spitting Games
    Chasing Cars
    Shut Your Eyes
    Make This Go On Forever
Set The Fire To The Third Bar
    The Finish Line
    Open Your Eyes
    You're All I Have

I arrived to Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena at around 3pm, ready for the doors to open at around 6:45pm. The crowd was a mix between young and old, but mostly consisted of little teenage girls. The female fans dominated the male fans. My mate and I managed to get a spot in the third row centre of the stage. The first act to perform was former Snow Patrol member, Iain Archer. His set was quite impressive; he mostly played tracks from his 2006 album ‘Magnetic North’. Tracks on his set featured When It Kicks In, Everything I've Got and Summer Jets. His music was very calm and pleasant, he reminded me of a one-man Coldplay.

The next and final support of the night was American band, Silversun Pickups. Sadly the lead singer Brian Aubert had just about lost his voice. The band improvised and bass guitarist, Nikki Monninger took over some of Brian’s vocals for the set. Brian was very comical and enjoyable to watch. Brian told the crowd he was so sorry about his voice and would make it up by signing autographs after the show, although I could not find him after the show. Silversun Pickups failed to play two of my favourite tracks ‘Well Thought Out Twinkles’ and ‘Future Foe Scenarios’. Early on the night Snow Patrol’s bass guitarist walked on stage to a big a round of applause, Brian grabbed Paul Wilson for a big fake kiss to the crowds delight. Later in the set Paul Wilson joined Silversun Pickups on stage once again to perform the final song of the set, Lazy Eye.

By now the Rod Laver Arena was just about as packed it could be, although there were a few empty areas where the impeded viewing was situated. Strangely enough just about a year ago Snow Patrol was an unknown band played in Melbourne’s Metro venue, and now the boys from Northern Ireland are playing Stadium Shows. The 15,000 crowd erupted when Snow Patrol arrived on stage. The set begun with Eyes Open hit, ‘Hands Open’ during the song Gary changed the lyrics to “…And we’ll play your favourite song/ Melbourne burst to life…”. A surprising start to the concert as traditionally Snow Patrol begins with ‘Spitting Games’. Snow Patrol moved to ‘Final Straw’ hits such as Chocolate and Tiny Little Fractures. Gary worked the crowd greatly, he showed a sense of humour, and his vocals were flawless throughout the night.

For the first time in Melbourne, Snow Patrol played their Spiderman single ‘Signal Fire’. I felt the song lacked energy and it wasn’t as great live as it is on the recorded version. Gary Lightbody introduced Chasing Cars as a love song and as everyone heard the famous guitar opening the crowd went crazy (as 80% of the crowd came to the concert to hear that song unfortunately). I still cringe a little bit when I hear ‘Chasing Cars’ live. Gary Lightbody put the battle of the sexes to the test during the song, ‘Shut Your Eyes’. He asked each sex to sing the line “Shut Your Eyes, and Sing To Me”, the females won very convincingly.

Iain Archer joined Snow Patrol on stage with Melbournian Laura Jean to play the acoustic guitar in the song ‘Set the Fire to the Third Bar’. Iain Archer looked so happy and comfortable on stage with his former band. Iain Archer came back on stage with Snow Patrol later in the night to open the encore with ‘The Finish Line’.

One of the greatest highlights of the night was the performance of my personal favourite song ‘Run’. It was done beautifully, the lines “To think I might not see those eyes/Makes it so hard not to cry” still move me in a way no other lyrics do. It was during those lyrics all the instruments in the band stopped for those two lines and made them more meaningful and focused. ‘Open Your Eyes’ was another highlight for me, it was as powerful live as it is on the Eyes Open Album. Snow Patrol ended the night with ‘You’re All I Have’ as I walked out with a huge smile and satisfaction fulfilled on my third Snow Patrol concert.

Although my night was far from over now, Iain Archer was out signing autographs after the show so I managed to take a photo with him as well as an autograph. Iain is a very nice bloke, and it was a great idea to meet and greet the fans after the show. We then left the building and headed towards the official Rod Laver Arena parking lot where we waited for over an hour for Snow Patrol to exit the building. Finally they jumped into two different vans, and we then chased them and all of a sudden the second van stopped. Out came Gary Lightbody! And I could not believe my eyes, my idol was there right in front of me. I latched on to him with a huge hug, my friend and I grabbed onto him. Gary greeted us and said in his accent comically “Are we just going to hug or are we going to take some photos?”. I rushed for the camera and we all got photos with the Snow Patrol vocalist. I asked Gary why they don’t play their older material anymore and he replied with “They just don’t go”. Gary went back into the van, and I was happier then I ever could be.

Overall the night was on the best of my life. Snow Patrol did gave free CD’s of Final Straw away for each ticket purchased due to the lack of lyrics from Final Straw known on Snow Patrol’s last Australian tour in February, this time it was much better and about half the crowd were singing to the terrific tunes from Final Straw album. The stage set looked great, and overall the setlist was pretty good. The setlist was only 16 songs compared to the a 20 song setlist they performed in February. Although I would have much preferred to hear a few older songs from the Snow Patrol back-catalogue.

Thinking there would be a huge crowd at Snow Patrol, I thought I’d line up around midday. How wrong I was, the next group of people arrived at three hours after I had arrived to Festival Hall. But I was still happy to get my front spot secured, and the anticipation built up while I was waiting outside the venue.

When the doors finally opened just after 7pm I obtained a spot in the front row, slightly to the right side of the stage. The first support was the Red Riders, they only played a short 15 minute set but they were awesome. Up there in one of the best supports I have seen, they will be big one day. I had heard the ‘Replica Replica’ album before the concert and was impressed with the album, but they were even better live. These guys will make it to the big time!

The next support were another Australian band, the Howling Bells. I wasn’t keen on these guys a great deal. They have a few catchy songs, but none of their songs tend to stand out. The lead singer’s voice reminded me of a whining voice, not that appealing for me. Both bands were however a good choice for a Snow Patrol concert, glad the promoters got this one right…take note U2/Kanye West promoters!

Finally after all the waiting and all the sweat and heat building up in the non-air conditioned Festival Hall, the lights turned out and Snow Patrol hit the stage! Gary came out wearing a long sleeved black t-shirt, not a great idea for the sauna conditions at Festival Hall. Tonight drummer Graham Hopkins was filling in for Jonny Quin who recently broke his arm while snowboarding.

The band from Ireland opened with ‘Spitting Games’, a brilliant song to open with. I just love the longer version of the opening at the live gigs for this song. Next up was ‘Wow’, and I was not surprised that the majority of the crowd did not know the lyrics of this song and many others from the Final Straw album. The crowd went nuts for the first song from the Australian #1 album ‘Eyes Open’ played which was ‘It’s Beginning to get to me’.

Gary Lightbody was mentioning for the majority of the night how hot Melbourne was, and one time he quoted Apu from the Simpsons “Thank-you, Come Again” after one of their songs. Gary does not seem to lack a sense of humour!
Gary undid a few of his buttons on his T-Shirt, and told the crowd later in the gig he would take them all off. “At the end of the gig it will be like the Red Hot Chili Peppers” said Gary. He then dedicated the next song to Howling Bells and Red Riders, as Snow Patrol kicked in ‘Headlights on Dark Roads’.

‘How to be dead’ was played next, followed by ‘Grazed Knees’ which was dedicated to my mates girlfriend who I’ve bumped into at a few gigs around Melbourne. A very under-appreciated song by the fans around me though. Snow Patrol did it perfect though!
Gary told the crowd the next song was about love, “and if anyone wants to kiss anyone during a song ask them first, and no means no”. Nathan begun to play the Chasing Car cords as the crowd went nuts, most defiantly one of the biggest pops for the night, as this track was the reason why many of the Melbourne public turned up to this event.
Gary recalled a story from their experience in Sydney the night before, trying to put across a point of how friendly Australians are. One of the Snow Patrol crew members was threatened by a man in Sydney and was asked to give over money, after the crew member said he had no money the Sydney man just accepted in and walked away.

For ‘Set the Fire to the Third Bar’ Gary called out Melbourne-Based singer Laura Jean. She was okay, her vocal talent wasn’t quite shown though but she did the job. Gary Lightbody told us we were lucky as they didn’t play that song often.
Just before ‘Make this go on forever’, a crowd member shouted out to Gary, asking him to turn the guitars up. Gary then told the sound technicians to turn up the guitars and thanked the guy for the suggestion.
Just before ‘Run’, Gary said that Snow Patrol would be back in Australia in September, after ‘Run’ Snow Patrol went off stage thanking Melbourne for a great night!

Still do this day some people don’t get the idea of an encore as people were leaving straight after run. Snow Patrol came back on and Gary sung out the final track to the ‘Eyes Open’ Album, ‘The Finish Line’.
For the first time in Melbourne they then played ‘Hands Open’ probably the best song of the night in my opinion, as they didn’t play it at their last tour in Australia due to Gary once lost his voice during this song last year.
Snow Patrol then ended with ‘Tiny Little Fractures’, some fans even leaving during the song which was quite disappointing.

After the show I tried my best to get a setlist or guitar pick, but the security guards were just giving them to females, not one male received anything. But I was lucky to have a nice female next to me who received a guitar pick who realised I was a bigger fan than she was and gave me Nathans guitar pick which she received after the show.

Overall Snow Patrol did a fantastic job in the hot conditions, the only let down was the crowd. Last years concert was much better in a smaller venue, and where all the fans knew EVERY song, unlike this time. I hope when they arrive back in September they avoid Festival Hall, I’m not keen on Festival Halls ‘No Camera’ policy. I would have liked to see more songs from the first two albums, but I guess this concert was more to support the ‘Eyes Open’ Album.

    Snow Patrol
25th of July, 2006 - The Metro, Melbourne

    (Support: STARKY)

    *Spitting Games
*It's Beginning to Get to Me

Tuesday Nights were never meant to be this fun, but Snow Patrol broke tradition. I got front row standing position..just about front and centre due to being the first person to enter the Metro and lining up for hours. It was well worth it! Scored myself a guitar pick and got to touch Gary Lightbody's hand!

The Support Band were Starky from Sydney, they were your average support. Not too bad at all. My mate Paul even got his comment heard by the lead-singer of Starky when saying one of the Concert Crew looked like 'George Harrison with a beard'.

The only downfall to the night was "Hands Open" crossed off on the setlist. But other than that Gary and the rest of Snow Patrol rocked Melbourne. From the heavy rocking Spitting Games, and the smooth and relaxing 'Chasing Cars' to the famous hit 'Run'. It is hard to choose just one favourite for the night, but in the top songs would be; Chasing Cars, You're All I Have, Make This Go On Forever and of course Run.

Gary was the stand-out entertainer of the night, as the other band members kept to themselves not being overly charismatic. Gary's strange dance moves kept the crowd visually entertained even if the visual effects on-stage weren't that special. It wasn't the easiest task to work out what the Snow Patrol's vocalist Gary Lightbody was saying on the microphone in between songs, but we managed.

Overall an awesome night, can't wait till the next time Snow Patrol come back down under in Melbourne, Australia.
