The group to find the complete list of free music sites that scrobble to Last.fm. The new and improved version of The Matchedd.
************
...

Welcome to Sites that Scrobble to Last.fm (formerly The Matchedd)
This group is dedicated to find new sources of legal music that scrobble to Last.fm, this is not the place to find or place links to illegal ones. Please don't place links to them either in the shoutbox, threads or as a comment since I don't want to get banned. Any link/post/comment that does will be deleted and the member will be kicked. Artists who want to promote themselves, please don't put links to your music here since there are other (and much bigger) groups out there to do that.

Group goal
Despite the continual legal pursuit of music file-sharing "criminals" by the RIAA, the ability to find great music and create a significant music library on Last.fm at virtually no cost is still quite feasible. So we'll start by dividing this into categories and giving a few examples of what we know. But it's up to you to fill in the blanks.

Paid sources or premium subscriber features
The list is build on the assumption that you don't want to pay to listen to music. This means that if the source has options for premium (i.e. paid) accounts those will not be mentioned in the review. This is also the reason why the following sites will not be added to the list: Rdio, Rhapsody, MOG and Napster.

Scrobbling
A number of the sites in this list do not directly support scrobbling to your Last.fm-profile, some workarounds are:

  • The Universal Scrobbler use it to manually scrobble tracks to your play history.
  • If you use Firefox you can install LastFM Firefox Extension to get tracks on Slacker, Pandora, Deezer and AccuRadio scrobbled to Last.fm.
  • Another solution is to have an account on Like.fm to scrobble tracks there and on: Youtube, Pandora, Grooveshark and Meemix.
  • Scroblr.fm (Chrome/Safari-extension) scrobbles: Pandora, Grooveshark, Google Music Beta, Amazon Cloud Player, Turntable.fm, Bandcamp, Accuradio, Jango and We7

One time solutions for specific sources are mentioned on that site's-blurb.

What's different from the previous group?
The main overview here will only contain a list of sites that scrobble streaming music to Last.fm. If you want the complete list of all the other ones (including those where you can only download free music) you can find all those at once on my Squidoo-lens (when visiting be sure to vote for your favourites). There are also threads in this group with the different lists, head over to the discussions to see whether your favourite is included.

The List

22tracks - Rating: very good22tracks.com is all about curating. It's a jukebox consisting of 22 playlists of different genres. Each playlist is filled with 22 tracks selected by specialized DJ's from Amsterdam and Brussels. In this way 22tracks quickly overviews the latest music, promotes new artists and lets you discover new genres. No registration, no hassle. New music: the easy way.

3voor12 Luisterpaal - Here you'll find a great selection of newly released alternative albums. It scrobbles through this link. They used to have Spotify playlists available but they seem to have been abandoned, instead try Atze de Vries' 3VOOR12 Draait (updated every week) for a taste of what's going on there. - Rating: Very good

8Tracks - Review - Use if: you want to listen to other peoples playlists - Rating: If you find the right member it's good.8tracks is handcrafted internet radio. It offers a simple way for people to share and discover music through an online mix, a short playlist containing at least 8 tracks.
On 8tracks, people can do two things: listen to a mix, or create a mix. Listeners can search for a mix by artist or genre, stream it in a legal, radio-style manner, and follow others who make compelling mixes. DJs upload MP3s or AACs to craft a playlist, add context with description and art, and publish their mix on 8tracks.com and a personal webpage.
8tracks believes handcrafted music programming trumps algorithms. Think radio in the 1970s, mixtapes in the 1980s, and DJ culture of the 1990s through today. DJs share their talent in taste making, providing exposure for artists. Listeners get a unique blend of word-of-mouth sharing and radio programming — long the trusted means for music discovery — on a global scale.

AccuRadio - Scrobble streaming radio tracks on Accuradio using the LastFM Firefox Extension or Scroblr.fm.We offer over 500 channels programmed by real people. And you can customize each channel to your tastes! Best of all, it's free!

Bandcamp - Scrobble streaming tracks on Bandcamp using this Greasemonkey-script if you use Firefox/Chrome as a browser, or the exfm-extension if you're using either Chrome or Firefox. You can also use the BandcampScrobbler-site to see your Last.fm-recommended artists or artists related to the one currently playing. discover new music and directly support the artists who make it.

Bassradio (radio) - Scrobble on foobar with foo_audioscrobblerBuenos Aires Sound System Radio

Blip.fm - Review - Use if: you want to earn badges based on your listening habit. - Rating: Very goodA blip is a combination of 1) a song and 2) a short message that accompanies it. The way you create a blip is to first search for a song that you want to hear (or a song that you want your listeners to hear), then add a short message (under 150 characters), finally you submit it. Submitting a blip is also referred to as “blipping”, so from here on out, when you read “he blipped my favorite track” it means “he submitted a blip that had my favorite song attached”.

Deezer - Review - Use if: you're looking for something like last.fm - Rating: Very good

Chrome/Firefox + ExFM - Review - Use if: you want to scrobble tracks from blogs, Soundcloud, Bandcamp or Last.fm free downloads. - Rating: ExcellentExfm turns the entire web into your personal music library. As you browse, exfm runs in the background indexing every MP3 file you come across, building a music library for you. exfm will continue to check the sites you've visited, adding new music for you to listen to every day.

Mflow (region restricted to UK) - Normally I would not have access but after installing their official Chrome-extension and connecting it to my Gmail-account I have full access o_o It's a combination of Blip.fm and Last.fm through their use of (hash)tags and playlists. Very cool.music is for listening We believe that you should be able to listen to music without paying monthly subscription fees, and without having to put up with annoying adverts. After all, if you're going to buy music, you're going to need to listen to it in full first.

music is better shared We believe that the best way to find new music is through other people, and that it should be easy to legally share music with your friends - be they on mflow, facebook, twitter or buzz. More people buy music through a friend's recommendation on mflow than in any other way.

music should be rewarding We believe that when you buy music, the person that recommended it to you should be rewarded. By buying DRM-free music on mflow, you're not only making sure the artists get paid, you're also giving a big thank you (20% of the price, to be exact) to the person that recommended it to you.

Radiotuna (radio) - It's nice site for listening to online radio station. You can search by artist genres.

Simfy (region restricted to Germany and Switzerland) - On demand listening with pretty good content. Custom playlists are possible, as is a simple 'play this album' feature, loving/hearting a track doesn't work to Last.fm though. Music is streaming only but their smartphone app has some offline modus too. Simfy is among the official Last.fm partners when it comes to the track page links.simfy ist deine Musik. Why do you list Spotify and not Rdio and MOG? If your answer is "because they have a free version", then you can now add Rdio and MOG to the list, as they both launched free versions. Alternatively, you should remove Spotify from your list, as it is nearly identical a subscription service model as Rdio and MOG.

You might want to update the Like.fm references in this list. We no longer support scrobbling to Last.fm from YouTube or other external sites. We still support scrobbling songs you play directly on Like.fm though.
