8 Sep 2006, 18:16 by tomtom1000okay, maybe it's past time that i suggest this ...
i think at least some of you know about my blog, BiBaBiDi. i've had it for a bit more than two years now, and i think i've really gotten into the whole rhytm of it. i know i want with it, and i have goals for the future with it.
i like group projects more than individual ones, though, and i would love to work on the blog with someone else. i would love to get second opinions and advice, and be able to give the same back.
so, if anyone is interested in writing it with me, contact me, please. (just shoot a message over through facebook, or else email me at firstname.lastname@example.org) ...
it would obviously be optimal if you were around my age, and it would be trmendously awesome if you also live in l.a. or the area. that way, if i do end up organizing something or becoming more involved with my much sought-after "social aspect" of music, i will be able to work in co-operation much better!
... and since this is a music thing, i guess i should somehow connect it more directly to, uh ... music.
so -- my favorite bands (good place to start?):
Echo And The Bunnymen
... and many, many other (it's a music blog!) ... just thought i should write some down there. know a little more about the foundations that this is all built upon.
14 Aug 2006, 23:28 by tomtom1000okay everyone ... i've got a new mix here. tell me what you think!
"I Don't Think They're Going to Rescue Us"
After Laughter Comes Tears
Can I Get Get Get
We're From Barcelona
The Old Inhabitants
Sleepy Little Deathtoll Town
9 Aug 2006, 18:01 by tomtom1000okay, so i (and most everyone here, i guess) have been listening to a lot of Cansei de Ser Sexy ... this band makes me -- to be blunt -- horny. i guess that's due to their lyrics and their edgy, disco-dance-punk style, but regardless, when i heard their stuff, i want to have sex.
same thing with Uffie.
so my question?
what about you guys? what music really turns you on? gets you going?
1 Aug 2006, 21:31 by tomtom1000i always find this question to be an interesting one, especially for someone i've just met or someone whose musical tastes i don't know ...
what was the band that truly got you into music?
i don't mean like, 50 Cent or something, as an artist like that doesn't really inspire many (i could be wrong!) to look deeper into the world of music.
the band that got me interested -- this is bizarre -- was Pizzicato Five.
yeah ... that cute japanese band obsessed with 60s pop. my dad, while on business to japan, picked up one of their singles or something. i listened to it over and over, and thanks to very early internet and limited supplies of fan 'zines, i discovered Cibbo Matto.
not the usual entrance into the world of indie music -- i don't listen to japanese music much anymore anyway -- but that's how it happened ...
so tell me your stories!
27 Jul 2006, 14:24 by tomtom1000what do you guys think of your last.fm favorite artist rankings?
i'm curious to hear how accurate you all think they are, since i do not find mine to be all that precise.
The Unicorns is certainly one of my favorite bands, but The Strokes are not my #2. and Deerhoof should be much higher, i think.
just wondering ...
27 Jul 2006, 13:47 by tomtom1000i am not a big fan of this kind of music (crazy, lunatic, garage psychedelica), but man was this show awesome!
the Gris Gris were absolutely crazy. they hooked up this old fashioned mic to distort their voices and other instruments, never had a predictable song structure (always stop and start ... in that regard, they reminded me a bit of like, The Unicorns).
the highlight of the show was when the lead guitar/singer smashed his guitar against his amp. that was something i've never seen ...
Awesome Color opened, but they sort of sucked, unless you're into crappy stoner-rock.
20 Jul 2006, 21:13 by tomtom1000holy hell, Girl Talk's Night Ripper is ace. mash up's are cool, yes? especially cool when done right and in a creative manner (i.e., "wow! i never thought that Milk Man could be mashed up with Staight Outta Compton!"). but this is even better ... it's 45 minutes of the stuff! maybe i've been seriously missing out, but this is very, very cool.
and as an aside ... how is this thing legal? i haven't heard this many samples on a legit release since [album]paul's boutique[/album] or something.
