"Shoegazing is characterized by the use of distortion and fuzz, droning riffs and a Spectorish wall of sound from the noisy guitars.
Vocals were typically subdued in volume and tone, but underneath the layers of guitars was often a strong sense of melody."

The genre reached its highpoint between the years 1988-93. Some of the most important bands at that time were My Bloody Valentine, Curve, Slowdive, Ride, Chapterhouse, Cocteau Twins and Lush. New bands that could be described as, or at least has elements of shoegaze are Amusement Parks on Fire, Hammock, The Radio Dept, The Big Pink, M83, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and A Place to Bury Strangers, etc...     overall they dont know what shoegaze is,look at the unique chart..there is radiohead in top of the chart,i strictly dont agree with their votes

    You have to click "unique to this group." Ride is no. 5. If you don't click the unique option it leaves a lot of random shit in that pushes groups like Ride to 52, Pale Saints incredibly to 263, Chapterhouse to 147, etc. ... And sadly even when you select unique to group, bands like The Pains of Being Pure at Heart still make it to the top 10 and no chapterhouse or pale saints. Point is don't take the charts seriously.

    It sort of annoys me that people in this group don't listen to much RIDE - they're currently no. 52 on this group's charts. Considering they released one of the best shoegaze albums of all time (Nowhere) they should be more listened to.
