Scott Walker fans are in it for the long game. There have been just 15 albums since 1967, and only 4 since 1980. And yet, the last four years have seen a relative flurry of activity.
2006 brought us the powerful follow-up to 1995's Tilt, 'The Drift' - http://www.the-drift.net/
And involvement in Stephen Kijak's superb 'Scott Walker: 30 Century Man', a career retrospective featuring interviews with some of the many artists influenced by Scott, footage from the recording of The Drift, and an unprecedented interview with the man himself. - http://www.scottwalkerfilm.com/blog/
2007 saw a new song, Darkness, as part of the 'Plague Songs' compilation and a limited release of instrumental music composed for a dance piece called 'And Who Shall Go To The Ball? And What Shall Go To The Ball?' - http://www.andwhoshallgo.com/
In 2008 Scott brought his recent work to the stage as 'Tilting & Drifting - The Songs Of Scott Walker', with the production of an evening of live music and striking visual performances by artists such as Jarvis Cocker, Damon Albarn and Dot Allison. Walker himself presided over the mixing desk. - Review by MarwaBlues
And for audiophiles, 2008 also saw the rerelease on vinyl of Scott's 60s albums. Even if you don't have a turntable, the large artwork is very pleasing to hold!
In April 2009 British singer Bat For Lashes released her second solo album in April. 'Two Suns' features a collaboration with Scott on the album's closing track 'The Big Sleep'. It is a blink or you'll miss it appearance (can ears blink?), but is no less spine-tingling and goose-bump-inducing than we've come to expect. And its good to know that Scott is feeling good about being in a recording studio and working with other artists.
New in 2011!
Scott is composing a score to accompany The Royal Ballet's production of Jean Cocteau's 1932 play Duet For One. The piece will be performed alongside Poulenc’s opera La Voix Humaine, at The Royal Oper House in London in June this year.
More to come? We hope so.
