watched jesus camp when i was 16 and will never forget the scene when the camp leader took them to washington, dc and put tape over the kids' mouths to protest abortion. i still can't believe the way she exploited those kids

happy to find this group :). Children should be able to make their own decisions as far as religious belief or lack of. Brainwashing is not right by any stretch of the imagination.

Hello. I am French, and her, I speak in French. Sorry if you no understand, but you can translate my words, if you want and if you not understand quite the French tongue: Je pense que les enfants doivent être dispensés de tout formatages des esprits pour ce qui est de la religion, surtout quand celle ci est judéo-chrétienne.

Tastudios2001: Yes, Christianity is built on the death cult and it works a lot with the fear level... but you can`t say that about all the religions. Buddhism does not tend to make people scared of death, but to make them understand its inevitability that gives life that certain time frame we are not aware of it.. thus every moment must be meaningful... Generally speaking, all religions were mostly built as the way how to create and maintain any form of moral system. Nowadays we have fucking lawyers, corrupted politicians and economical subjects controlling all of them to do that job for you.... This topic is huge, you will always end up with lots of other stuff, that must be put in the picture... However, I am the member of this groups, because children are easy to manipulate with... And everytime religion serves as the way to control the people, gain the assets and money, it`s reproducing itself like a deadly virus through the parenting and education system, media...

"How can atheism be a belief when it's the lack of belief in itself?! and no there's nothing good that's done by religion that cannot b done by humanitarian purposes alone." Truth.

Missionary-ism (read: forcing one's beliefs down other people's throats) by means of humanitarian black-mail in the poorest and most vulnerable of countries on earth, is just as manipulative and hypocritical (or even more so) as indoctrinating children via the Western educative system. Those self-righteous ignorant excuses for human beings are the utter worst of their kind.

And if you're atheist, and preach that your "beliefs" are better than the others (I.E Richard Dawkins)...wouldn't that mean that atheism is also a religion?

Religion can be used for both good, and bad things. For example: if you go over to a country like Africa, and do humanitarian work for your church; then yes, that is a bright side to the "invisible man in the sky". But on the negative side, if you use it to justify your reasons to go to war with someone in the name of jesus, then fuck me senseless, yeah; shit can be horrendous. I'm an agnostic, but every time I watch these fundamentalists go out, and try to implement laws because their book told em so; I get sickened by it.

I'm an atheist but sometimes I feel like other atheists, primarily the ones on the internet of course, have the same pack mentality and need to preach that they despise from the religious. Of course I'm aware that not every atheist does this, as not every religious person does it. But for the ones that do, it seems kinda detrimental to what you usually hope to accomplish. Especially when you post ridiculous statements like "religion is the root of all the worlds violence". Just my $0.02
