    Hi Sixerito,

I'm sorry not to know what's wrong with your machine but I'll tell how I it works for me. I'm using both 9.04 (jaunty) and 9.10 (karmic) (on different machines). I do not need _any_ software except Rythmbox and the native last.fm plugin. I do NOT need any last.fm software scrobbler like [1]. I'm able to liste to last.fm radio stations as well this way.

Go to Rhythmbox -> Edit -> Plugins -> Last.fm. Enable it and enter your account data. This should work fine.

    best regards,
    kono

    same problem for me

I was able to sign up for Last.fm account, play music from the web site. Then I opened up Rythmbox and was able to play last.fm music. Then - it stopped playing and seems it does not recognize my account sign in.

    Hi Heymull,

do you claim that Rhythmbox doesn't recognize that you're logged into the website with your account? Actually Rhythmbox doesn't care about your browser. If you would like the music you're listening to with Rhytmbox to be scrobbled you have to give your account data (name/password) to the last.fm plugin. It could be accessed as I wrote in my above posting.

Sry, if I misunderstood your problem.

    regards,
    kono

  • Hi everyone,
I can't connect to last.fm too with rhythmbox.
It tells that my account parameters are wrong, but they are the same as those used on the website...
    Any idea?

    Thanks!

I had the same problem, what worked for me was not pressing ENTER after filling my account details but TAB.
    give it a try

  • thx too!

  • The most easy solution is, Just as Kingkono wrote:
Go to Rhythmbox -> Edit -> Plugins -> Last.fm. Enable it and enter your account data.
Don't press ENTER, simply close the settings window.
    Enjoy!

  • All with problems try with this plugin it works perfectly...

  • Ubuntu has different alternatives to Rhythmbox that are also able to scrobble and play last.fm. If Rhythmbox doesn't work, give Banshee or Amarok a try.

Rhythmbox in the new Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid lynx), which I am testing now and will be released the 29th of April, works perfectly together with last.fm.

The latest version of Rhythmbox (0.12.8) works great with last.fm. If you're using Karmic Koala, you can get it here:

    http://www.webupd8.org/2010/03/rhythmbox-0128-released-available-in.html

By adding the PPA take care that you only update the packages of Rhythmbox.

I am new to last.fm, but find it easy to use on the web. I am trying to use it via Rhythmbox and have encountered some problems. After checking this site, I was able to get the account data in, and actually pulled up a group of 5 songs which it started to play. However, I was playing around and double clicked on a song, and suddenly a red circle popped up on the left hand side of the song, and a message about not having the right gstreamer file to play the song. However, if I did not touch anything, it would play songs just fine.

A bit later I opened it up again, it loaded some songs, and when I click on one I got the following error message:

    "http://play.last.fm/user/c46b8c0921e29e977a6c4b90e7dc02bb.mp3";: Forbidden

I don't have a clue as to what is going on here, and would appreciate any ideas.

    I am running Ubuntu 9.10

  • Gstreamer

Gstreamer packages are codecs that you need to play proprietary formats on Ubuntu. Ubuntu doesn't install them by default.

Try installing "ubuntu-restricted-extras". Search for it in the softwarecenter, in synaptic or install this package by using the terminal and type (without the quotes) "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras"

This should install all the codecs for proprietary audio and video formats (plus a lot of other proprietary stuff)

Please let us know if it worked.

  • error messages

It says I have the newest version of the restricted extras - I am curious, if you double click on a song title in the list of downloaded links, what happens on your machine?

Mine gives me error messages, but maybe I am trying something that it is not supposed to do. I was hoping to change the selected song that was playing, and see if any options popped up at the same time.

  • Strange... never seen that before. Your codecs are alright then. In theory you should be able to use all the options rhythmbox supplies you with. When some of these options don't work it is simply a bug. In my rhythmbox it works flawlessly (RB 0.12.8 Ubuntu 10.04)

If you want to try to fix it, you could take a look at Ubuntu Forums to see if there is anyone with the same problem. Otherwise you could post a new topic to get help fixing the bug.

  • Or try installing the latest version of rhythmbox to see if it makes any difference.

  • save password

That was my problem for weeks! Thank you Sweet_Melodies!

  • error messages

Thanks for the ideas - works fine on laptop, but not on desktop. Although both are running the latest version of Ubuntu, may not be the latest version of Rhythmbox.

I lied - having same trouble now with laptop which actually makes more sense. It seems that when it comes up and starts playing, don't touch a key:)

  • i just updated rhythmbox and pressed TAB after entering my userinfo as pabart suggested. works fine now, finally! try it.

  • 10.04 issues

Since upgrading to 10.04 yesterday, Rythmbox isn't scrobbling anymore. :(
